I’ve had a fasttrack 2 week referral for a scan after an exam for unexplained vaginal bleeding (I’m over a year now of no periods, I’m 56)

Anybody know how long results take?

I was made redundant last month, my husband died unexpectedly a week later of a heart attack and now I have been referred for ‘suspected gynaecological cancer’.

Its all happening very fast here. Wish me luck tomorrow Wednesday please I am terrified.

I have two dependant children at home who witnessed their dad dying and tried to help me revive him. The thought of them being told something awful after the results of this scan tomorrow is playing hugely on my mind. I’m still grieving for my husband, the finances are in a mess, my son is on the middle of GCSEs, and I have no friends now my husband has died.

There’s nobody to come to the scan with me.

Sending you hugs and positive thoughts for normal test results 💐

Sending you a huge hug and I'm so sorry about your husband. It's really good that you are going to be seen quickly.
Things will get better, you will make friends again and find another job, just take it day by day For now. Thinknig of you

Sending you positive thoughts for your test results so sorry you’ve been through so much.

Checking in OP, thinking of you during such a tough time. Keep us posted OP on your results x

aLittleWhiteHorse · 31/05/2025 17:34

I’m so sorry that you are having such a sad and stressful time OP.

Just to say this happened me earlier this year, and they did find something, I had to have more detailed examination under anaesthetic, which was a frightening prospect, but it was just a fibroid. Done and dusted, nothing more to see or do. I believe the chances of it being nothing are about 85%, so pretty good odds. Stress does upset our hormones and very likely did contribute to your bleed… but it’s just menopause really.

Sending best wishes for a boring old result of healthy for you xx

Just a quick update - No scan results yet as of 2nd June .

Thankyou for checking in those who have messaged recently, I do genuinely appreciate your concern .

I’m so sorry that you’re having an awful time x

Waiting must be alfwul. I can't imagine so I won't try. I did have a brain tumour scare years ago and needed a mri. I nearly fainted when I was told they suspected a tumour. In the end my scan was completely clear.

I hope yours will be too.

ilovemyhamster · 02/06/2025 22:50

I'm keeping you in my thoughts OP and sending a hand hold x

OopsIforgotmyname · 02/06/2025 23:04

That’s frustrating for you OP. I checked in earlier hoping you may have had some news.

Stay strong, you’re doing well.

I'm sure if you mention your location an amazing Mumsnetter will be close by.

Yes, where are you OP? It's an incredibly difficult time for you and you need some real life support. If you say where you are maybe someone could come to scan appointment with you for support. Wishing you all the best of luck for Wednesday.

Sending love and positive thoughts and thinking of you and your children 🧡 xxx

workshyfop · 02/06/2025 23:51

You sound very strong OP, though I’m
sure you don’t feel it. You’re having an incredibly tough time all at once. Be kind to yourself and take time to grieve your husband. Thinking of you and your children and sending love your way x

Changed18 · 03/06/2025 08:43

I’m hoping that no news may be good news, OP. Whenever a family member has had a serious condition diagnosed they have heard back very quickly (same day).

Thinking of you at such a stressful time. I hope your DS’s GCSEs are going as well as they can.

vipersnest1 · 03/06/2025 20:48

Thinking of you, @0500hours, especially as I have a tongue biopsy in two weeks time. It’s a scary position to be in.
I’m sending positive thoughts your way.

MrsPositivity1 · 03/06/2025 22:14

@0500hoursi’m so saddened reading your post, so many life changing events in such a short space of time. We are here for you and hope you get the all clear very soon.

StartupRepair · 03/06/2025 22:18

What a hard waiting time after everything you have gone through. Thinking of you.

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 03/06/2025 22:20

This really is one day at a time.. slowly slowly... and I do second finding someone you can talk to if at all possible. Unbelievably hard ... and people often want to support if they can.

I’m a sonographer, i work in gynaecology doing these scans. Please try not to worry, although any post menopausal bleeding is classed as a ‘red flag’ symptom and warrants a two week wait referral the vast majority of our referrals do not result in a cancer diagnosis. I’ve actually been a patient on the list myself twice too (interesting when a colleague had to scan you transvaginally). I’m not sure how long you’ll wait for results I’m afraid, every hospital works differently but where I work you see the gynaecologist straight after the scan and they discuss the results with you straight away so hopefully you won’t wait too long.

PurpleSpottedLeopard · 03/06/2025 22:50

I’ve just seen your post OP and although I’ve got nothing really constructive to add I just wanted to say that I’m so sorry for the terrible few weeks you’ve had. And to say that I’m another person that’s thinking about you and wishing you the best from afar.

Thankyou that’s really reassuring to know. It’s been about a week now I think (losing track of days at best of times) so hopefully today I’ll get the results.

Hope you hear very soon OP!

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 04/06/2025 07:53

Hope you get your results soon. I’ve had a couple of these and they have to put suspected gynaecology cancer on the letters I think, as mentioned at least that gets you fast tracked.

0500hours · 11/06/2025 10:51

Update

all clear the gynaecology cancer letter is to fast-track you for scans I learnt wish I’d known that to begin with .

Thankyou everyone for your replies I did read them all I am very, very grateful for your support Thankyou so much x
