I know that this has probably been done to death already but is there no end in sight to their cyber-attack?

Im desperately trying to buy a dress and some vests that are never in stock in any store near me so online is my only hope!

First world problem clearly but I’m not a huge shopper so when I see something I like, I just want to get it!

Driving me potty as I’ve had my eye on linen trousers and some holiday stuff from there for weeks now. Even caved and went to store the other day but their selection in store is so much more limited and they didn’t have what I wanted.

must admit, I’m surprised it’s still going on.

Yorkshiremum80 · 27/05/2025 20:04

They have said it will be July before they are back up and running properly. They will be having to rebuild all of their systems

Letshavetea1 · 27/05/2025 20:22

I went to M and S today. Several things I really liked - none in my size and it was a very large M&S. I’m mainly size 12. They either didn’t have my size or in trousers didn’t have the right leg length. Husband found the same - he wanted summer shirts and could only buy one t shirt in his size. Staff are telling customers it’ll be July before it’s all up and running again.

So frustrating.

I’m more than prepared to to a buy and swap if I see something that someone desperately wants, if they’re prepared to do the same for me in return!

We can’t even phone stores to check stock.

Frustrating indeed. Come July, the website will crash again with desperate buyers.

I'm hoping we'll get a great sale with all the unsold stock!

londongirl12 · 27/05/2025 22:58

I know it’s frustrating, but think of the money they are absolutely haemorrhaging right now. With costs going up, profits are going down generally anyway. They’ll likely go in the red due to the lack of sales and the cost of the rebuilding of their systems. This could cripple them in the future, stores close etc. the staff must be worried about their jobs. I think we need to keep that in perspective.

ADHDHDHDHD · 27/05/2025 23:01

It is an absolute unmitigated disaster. All the stock will already have been bought. But it’s stuck in warehouses or at suppliers. So when it comes into store it will be the wrong season stock. For any ‘sale’ the company makes a loss. I really hope they sort it out sharpish. I feel for the staff they must be so worried

Cheffymcchef · 27/05/2025 23:35

i just want some Percy pigs. I think they said it might be July or August before online orders are back. My local marks food is out of everything.

TheGriffle · 27/05/2025 23:38

Ah never, I thought I’d read they were back up and running for online orders! I was counting on their school uniform sale to get DD’s extortionate school shirts for the new school year.

2chocolateoranges · 27/05/2025 23:40

It so annoying, I much prefer ordering online and picking the clothes up from my nearest food hall. Makes life easier.

we went to our closest M&S store at the weekend to try and get my daughter some tops , cardigans and trousers for starting her first job and they had no size 6s. She would normally order online but ended up having to go to H&M, Zara and then ordering off Uniqlo website .

m&s must be losing so much money each day they aren’t up and running on the website.

Bjorkdidit · 28/05/2025 05:35

OP look on Vinted. I once bought an M&S item from there that was BNWT while I was sitting in their changing room after trying on something I wanted but they didn't have the size/colour combination I wanted, plus it was half the shop price.

But I agree it's so frustrating if you're used to online shopping. I prefer to try things on, but in reality stock levels are dire, it seems that they never have what you want in stock, even if the online stock checker says they do.

I’d say that had probably been stolen!

GCAcademic · 28/05/2025 06:54

The British Library had a cyber attack 18 months ago and have not recovered all their services yet. They are having to completely rebuild their systems. It’s not a problem with a quick fix.

It’s scary how vulnerable we have made ourselves as a society with our total reliance on the internet. Literally everything would grind to a halt if someone were to switch it off.

Toootss · 28/05/2025 06:57

Apparently M&S are not paying the ransom hence the long wait.

And nor should they. The British Library (as a recipient of public money) was prevented by the government from doing so as it would encourage further attacks.

abnerbrownsdressinggown · 28/05/2025 07:00

I hadn’t realised how much I had started to use M&S again for clothes and basics - like a pp they had become my go to for ordering online and picking up at my local food hall.

allamberedover · 28/05/2025 07:03

How are they managing to keep their food halls stocked ?
Do they have a different IT system?

WhitegreeNcandle · 28/05/2025 07:05

I don’t get how they can’t get more stock from the warehouses into the shops. IT wont be cost effective but they have the staff and the lorries, why aren’t they just doing a man with a van type round and getting as much as they possibly can into stores.

Thislittlekitten · 28/05/2025 07:09

I found this at the weekend too. I have a gift card and just wanted some plain tops for work and it’s no exaggeration to say there were no tops in store in my size. Even staff helped me. They are under huge pressure I imagine but it is frustrating.

Also our food hall is a hit and a miss still. Lots of empty shelves.

Yeah, I don’t understand this either. It wasn’t that long ago that it was standard to do just that.

Cynic17 · 28/05/2025 07:11

I shop regularly in the food hall, and there are still lots of gaps where you would expect particular products to be.
I read an estimate that this issue could cost them at least £300 million this year alone, not to mention the customers they lose who never go back.

KumquatHigh · 28/05/2025 07:15

They said last week it was going to be at least July.

Yes I'm worried for the staff and the long term outlook for the company.

vinavine · 28/05/2025 07:18

I feel really bad for them as I felt like they had started to really up their game clothes wise and this will be a huge set back and cost them so much

PuppyMonkey · 28/05/2025 07:19

I went to a big one near me yesterday and it was pretty busy and the store had clearly done a bit of “set design” to make the big gaps in the products less obvious. Even so, it was pretty clear there wasn’t much there to choose from. The cafe was rammed as usual though!
