My cat went missing when shall I get another cat?

My cat went missing 3 months ago and we have no idea what happened to her. We have done everything possible to find her but she has vanished.
My partner misses having a cat around so much he suggested we get another.
I had in mind I will wait 6 months or more then get 2 cats not 1 as I feel the cats would be happier and it would be easier.
Should I continue to wait or just go ahead and get a kitten? Should I get 1 or 2? I am still hoping my missing cat could turn up as she is chipped.

Two kittens is definitely better and kinder than one, especially if they will be alone for parts of the day while you work. I suspect, after three months, that it (sadly) is unlikely that your beloved cat will return so I think it's time to move on.

I think it depends on whether you could manage 3 if it came to it? If so there is no reason to wait.

From my life experience - the day before you want your original cat to stroll into your house like nothing has happened!

Mine came back the day after I contacted the local cat rescue to offer all her bits and bobs! I then felt obliged to give them a compensatory donation instead, but I didn’t mind, was so pleased to see her again.

@Lumpar I do feel for you, it is an awful feeling having that empty space. Lots of rescues are happy to rehome cats in pairs, often siblings , or a mum with one of her kittens. I would go for a slightly older pair because I don’t think I could cope with kittens! Good luck with your search, I look forward to the cat tax payment ( photo) when they arrive.

I am currently in a 2 bed flat but I'm going to move to a bigger house this year.
I think my old cat would be fine with kittens as she was a very active, playful cat. The space would be tight at first with 3 but it would be temporary.
When I first got her she was so active my flat was virtually turned into a cat play center to keep her happy. I would imagine having 2 little ones, half the job is done already with their play?

If you are going to move then I’d wait til you have before you get kittens.
