All I am saying is that in France, it is legal.

British actor, Aaron Taylor Johnson and the grandmother he married is similar: He was a 17 year old wannabe actor and she was his 40 year old film director (although she looks older). It is legal.

Men do this all the time.

None of the cases you’ve mentioned are okay, we’ve already called out the Taylor-Johnson saga. And men doing it is also disgusting.

And Brigitte was in a position of power over him. It’s indefensible. No one in their 30s should be even looking at a school child, even if it’s legal. If he were 17 and she had been a teacher at his school I’d still be calling it wrong.

GreenClock · 26/05/2025 17:50

She groomed him and now she’s abusing him. It’s how these things often go.

I don’t know what will happen with them now but I do hope that victims of abuse see that clip and realise that if it can happen to one of the most influential people in the world it can happen to anyone. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.

check your facts. It's not legal if one is in a position of authority over the other, like a teacher.

I just find it so bizarre that she would do that in front of the flight attendants and most probably their staff.

She's obviously got very emboldened. The door or the aeroplane was about to open, as well.

The idea there is one monster in the relationship and one victim and that one push is worse than passive aggression, insults, cheating or whatever is going on…

@Lavenderfarmcottage Genuine question, would you honestly be saying that if the genders were switched here?

I don’t think I would no because I feel like it would be far more dominating, scary and dangerous if Macron was doing it to Brigitte. He’s also surrounded by security and has enormous power. I think he could get out if he wanted. I don’t think you could be president of France & not be very assured and confident. I think there’s many variables as to why I don’t automatically see him as a long running victim.

Watch Candance Owens video.

Funnily enough the male school teacher who ran off with his fifteen year old pupil ended up in prison and signing the SOR.

Yes, I'm hoping some good will come of it for other victims.

They are French. Edith Piaf's last husband was 26 to her 46. Vive la difference!

The French aren't as uptight as the English or Americans. There is a lot of pearl clutching on MN today. The legal age in France is 15... It is his choice if he want to sleep with maîtresse grand-mère with the matchstick legs. Whatever gets you through the night.

No, I am not related to Brigitte...

I didn’t realise the translation of “child safe guarding” in French was “uptight”

@costcoponder Fucking hell, can we not with the fucking far-right conspiraloons please?

YourAmplePlumPoster · 26/05/2025 17:52

FFS. They've been together 30 years in spite of the circumstances in which they met. They've had a spat. My DH is 9 years younger than me and we've been together a long time.

sparrowflewdown · 26/05/2025 17:53

We don't know what happened before the incident? Maybe EM pushed her or said something awful and then she was retaliating? Maybe it was staged so EM can leave her without looking like an arse. The doors opened like the curtain going up on stage. Maybe they are both in on it to detract something else more newsworthy getting airtime?

Why not? He's not the President in their relationship, is he? No matter how confident and self assured you may appear to be, you can be the victim of abuse.

Yes quite. I think it's Candace Owens who's put about the theory that she's a man and he's gay. Bonkers.

Was he 15 and you 24 when you got together? If so why weren't men of your own age acceptable? Why were you looking at boys?

I'm.assuming you were both grown ups. But the Macrons weren't.

Good for you. Unless one of you were the others teacher whilst they were at school then it's not really comparable.

And violence is never acceptable regardless of if you've been together 30 years or 300.

saraclara · 26/05/2025 17:57

The video clip shows how awkward the staff members who witnessed it and walked down the stairs first, felt. And the awkwardness of Macron afterwards, walking away, coming back, and fidgeting in that embarrassed way, never mind the look on his face

No chance that that was anything other than a full on aggressive gesture on her part.

Yes generally but I think over a 2 decade relationship you would be weaker, insecure and unable to govern.

I also think as a president he’s highly resourced. He could have any number of lawyers come in and security and get him out of the relationship without threat or issue. He has access to the best help and medical. He has homes at his disposal.

I think comparing for example a woman with young kids in a mortgaged home being beaten & having no place to go to macron, leader of France is a ‘long bow to draw’.

Could Macron be a victim of abuse and survivor ? Sure, why not, anything is possible. I just don’t think we can compare all types of domestic violence and relationships into black and white roles & definitions - abuser and victim of monster and victim. I think it’s more layered than that in this case.

Two things. A "spat"? Do you think this is normal for couples who disagree on something?
Secondly, were you your husband's school teacher? Was he a class mate of your daughter?

I don't care about comparisons or whataboutery. She was physically abusive.
That is all.

We don't know what happened before this.

My scenario, which could be widely off the mark, is that he either said "Hey old lady would you like a hand up from the seat?"

Or she discovered him in the toilet with a flight attendant doing naughty things.

@placemats would either of those justify physical violence? Just wondering at what point you feel it’s Ok to shove someone in the face?
