Can’t link but a headline post in the Telegraph. The trolling is desperate surely ?

Is there a gofundme?

You are very bold (naughty) !!!!
😂

MoominMai · 25/05/2025 15:34

I guess one’s expectations are all relative to their individual earnings spectrum, so to them these are valid non-trolling concerns on which of course I look disgustedly which they no doubt would do on me also as I bemoan the fact that I can no longer afford Sainsbury’s finest/branded foods and now primarily shop in Aldi haha 😭

Hehe pretty hilarious write up

But the guy going to private school in Singapore when he was young? That doesn’t make sense - the best local schools are considered way better than international and locals don’t have to pay

It could have been down to the old-fashioned notion that a British/American education was “best”, or just going along with their crowd. At the very least, decades ago the state system gave kids a rote-style of learning - nearly everything from a textbook, with much less focus on things like sports, arts, foreign languages, philosophy, global citizenship, etc. which private schools did actually tend to be better at back then. Didn’t read the article but it was also common to send kids to the privates to get GCSEs, as state schools in SEA often had their own national qualifications, which may have made it trickier to then get into a uni abroad.

Have seen on MN posters whose parents can't afford another cruise as the 200 pound winter heating allowance was taken away. Prince Andrew prob feels the same way. It just isn't right.

I think this should work for those who can't get past the paywall:

Fearfulsaints · 25/05/2025 15:42

It's a very funny article. They had to reduce their holiday budget from 40k to 20k poor things.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/05/2025 15:44

Having managed to read the article (thanks @MrsBennetsPoorNerves), I can only conclude that that is a spoof, and the editor of that section of the paper is too thick to realise it.

vodkaredbullgirl · 25/05/2025 15:46

My heart bleeds for them.

DropOfffArtiste · 25/05/2025 15:50

The gardener seems very cheap at £245 a year

Soaring school fees, mortgage rates haven’t returned to levels before pandemic, groceries cost considerably more etc. and don’t get me started on taxes. So I can 100% see why a family with an income of £325k can’t go overseas, or even domestic, on holiday as often, or at all.

GetOffTheCounter · 25/05/2025 15:53

I have my Dc in a small indy. It works out at an extra £200 per week for us- for fucking nothing.

This week I was talking to a mother who has two children in it- one on a part bursary and she said she has taken evening shifts at her local pub in order just to pay VAT. Despite her and her DH both being full time professionals.

I call bullshit on this article.

Womblingmerrily · 25/05/2025 15:53

The Gardener is astonishing - £240 a year for 24 visits - so £10 a visit - how long is he there? 10 minutes?

Now they have him coming every other month - for which he should still charge £240 a year because he's going to have the same amount of work to do.

Odd

3peassuit · 25/05/2025 15:53

Their gardener put his price up by £15 a year. It must have been the last straw for them. This must win the award for the most tone deaf article of the month.

Redamyryllis · 25/05/2025 15:54

Who has time for 5 holidays a year ?? 😮

I think the telegraph is just trolling for clicks at this point

This.
It's obvious they're just on the wind up, the sad thing is people fall for it.
Not even going to bother clicking on it.

CubanTody · 25/05/2025 15:56

@HonoraBridge Whether the story ir real or not I can't say but the article certainly exists, I shared a gift link further up the thread.

Isn't the Telegraph against VAT on private schools, though?

Well, exactly. Surely it's alienating to their target audience?

Who has time for 5 holidays a year ?? 😮

I know lots of people who do…and most of them have their kids in state school. They go away every school holiday.

uuuuu · 25/05/2025 16:02

Well, I think we need to think a bit more before just saying "rich cunts, womp womp".

Those two are paying way over £100k in tax every year between them. In under a decade, they'll contribute a million quid to HMRC. When you consider how much money people who aren't net contributors receive from the state, I think that the likes of that family are extremely valuable to this country.

They are very internationally mobile and if I were them, I'd be out of this country right away. There are plenty of countries that they could go to and pay shit all tax. And go on more than five holidays and not get sneered at - as the people on this thread are doing. That family are what we should all aspire to be like.

And if the Moy family are reading - look people, your kids are young and adaptable. You both are rich, talented and beautiful. You don't need to give any shits about disruption of education at this stage - just hot foot it to a country that doesn't treat you as a cash cow and actually values the fact that you are hardworking, high earning and model citizens.

pestowithwalnuts · 25/05/2025 16:02

Dear me..what a fucking tragedy.

uuuuu · 25/05/2025 16:03

And yes, the only family that I know that goes on five+ holidays a year is a family who have bought a house by a fantastic state school. Education completely free, holidays every half term and school holiday.

SpottedDonkey · 25/05/2025 16:05

It must be deliberate trolling. I particularly liked the use of the adjective ‘comfortable’ to describe their £345k income. Back in the real world, a third of that is what most people would consider to be ‘comfortable’.
