Mouse mystery, advice needed!

My lovely little cat found a mouse in the middle of the night, it must have come from outside as the back door was open.

He kept toying with it and I kept trying to grab it in a tissue but it eventually managed to escape us both. I'm pretty sure it must have died as he was harassing it for about ten minutes.

Now, I have a dilemma.

Do I search for the dead mouse underneath the furniture etc? There's so much stuff here and the couch is really heavy. I'm not really very able bodied. It would take several hours I really don't have the energy for.

Or do I just accept that if it's there it will decompose really quickly and probably won't stink or cause a fly infestation?

There is also a slim chance it ran back out again to safety.

What do you think?

TIA

There's nothing you can do. They can slip through the tiniest of gaps and it could be absolutely anywhere. If it is still indoors and alive the cat will find it; if it is dead you will soon know about it and where to find it!

Don’t worry you’ll soon know where it is due to the stench and the flies if you leave it and it will leave a mark on the carpet as it decomposes. I’d look for it personally but if you’ve a good sense of smell you could wait a day or two when it will be easier to find.

Thank you for your replies! I can't smell anything yet but the cat keeps lingering near the bottom of the couch...looks like it may be under there. I'll need some valium before I go shifting the furniture 🤣
