Mid Size Car help!

Two weeks ago we picked up our new 72 reg VW Polo, whilst I was driving it on Friday, down a dual carridgeway, it went into limp mode and the EPC light came on, this scared me! So as we are under 30 days I want to ask to change it to something else. I've lost any confidence in this car, we just wanted hassle free motoring.
What other cars a similar size to a Polo can you recommend please?

Toyota Yaris and Honda Jazz are first two that spring to mind for reliable small cars, Corolla or Civic if you want something slightly bigger.

@Shade17 thank you. I'll have a look at them. OH really wanted a VW as he was told very reliable, but this has just put me right off!

VWs are generally no better than average when it comes to reliability these days. Whatever you decide to look at, take a look at the What Car used car reliability survey.

I’ve got a Hyundai which has always been excellent - it’s 11 years old now and has never once let me down.

@Shade17 thanks, all the makes we looked at we pretty much on a par with each other.

@faerietales thanks, I'll see what the garage say today and probably start my hunt again!

The Japanese brands (with the exception of Nissan) are head and shoulders above the German shit. They’re not in the same league.

I would go for an XC40. Volvo have the safest cars on the road and it’s a great car to drive.

My Golf did exactly this in the outside lane of the M5! Garage investigated and couldn’t find anything wrong and it actually never did it again but it took me quite a while to trust it. It got written off a few years later and I ended up with a Focus. I don’t like it as much but drives very similarly to the VW.

We had a VW Polo that went on for years and years and did well over 100k without a minutes trouble. We swapped it for a Hyundai which went wrong, spent more time in the garage and they told us to reject it. So we did. We bought a Skoda instead.

Have a look at a Skoda and Seat Ibizas. We have 2 Skodas, DS1 has a VW and DS2 has a Seat. We’re all very happy with them,

All VAG junk.

Our adult son drives a Kia Rio and that is very reliable , my husband had one previously that did nearly 200, 000 miles before it died ( and it only died due to cam belt failure so could have been avoided if we had had it replaced more regularly) .

Thanks everyone for your replies, I suppose it just comes down to bad luck.
It has just put me of VW's now though.
