How does this work for driving tests?

If someone passes their driving practical test, can they immediately start driving by themselves like right on that day or do they have to wait? Is it advise that they drive accompanied for some time like with parents if they are a teenager or with a partner?

Nope, passed my test early morning in my car, exh drove me home and I insured myself and went straight out onto the motorway alone 😁

The driving test is considered to deem competency to drive alone from that moment in.
However, most people need to be driven home from their test as the insurance needs switching to being a new driver rather than a learner driver.

You can drive on your own straight away but you need to switch your insurance from learner driver to new driver (which is hugely expensive!)
When my DC passed they drove with the green P plates for first 2 or 3 months just to let everyone know they were an inexperienced driver

As others have said you need to get the insurance sorted first, but you can drive on your own from when you pass your test. You can use your test certificate as proof of having a license while you wait for the official one to be posted to you.

However most of the parents I know do accompany their teens for a few days to be sure they are driving sensibly.
