Seeing Friends At Weekends

Are you more likely to see your friends during the week than at weekends? I guess a lot is to do with your family set up but I am always surprised when reading Mumsnet threads just how many folks meet up during the day on Saturdays or Sundays. I very rarely arrange to see friends during the day on Saturdays, unless we’re going to a matinee or occasionally for lunch, and never suggest a Sunday (but then that is DH’s only full day off). I work part time, as do some of my friends, so we are able to arrange stuff on certain weekdays. Having said that, my friends & I don’t manage to socialise very often as everyone has so much going on. It’s like a military operation trying to organise a meal out for 5 or 6 of us!

If we are planning a day out with our friends with husbands and kids, then it's solely Saturdays and Sundays as then nobody is at work/school.

as a single woman I really hate how my married friends or those with kids blanket won’t meet at the weekend. I get that they have other stuff but it makes the relationship all take and no give.

It depends. I would do either but only for something that I really want to do or someone I really want to spend time with otherwise I just say no whereas in the past if have been happy to have more in the diary. If it's a dinner then it would make sense to meet after work if it's a friend who works in the same city as me, if it's a mum friend who has the same day off as me (I work 4 days) then we try to meet then but I don't rule out a few hours out on a weekend and my DH does the same. There isn't a lot of them to meet friends in the week unless they're nearby.

Weekends tend to be the time when everyone is free, I think it’s just that really. I am going part time from next month and looking forward to having some Friday lunches with friends who also do not work on Fridays but this is a new thing for me and I’m 46. Prior to this it has either been that we all book a day off work or wait for a convenient weekend.
