Questions welcome. He’s from a poor northern comp.

Kelticgold · 23/05/2025 23:18

Is he happy?

Would you advise him to do a prenup?

Sure, but does he go starting AMA threads on Mn?

£120k doesn’t put you in 55% territory

There isn’t a 55% tax bracket.

CampanulaMila · 23/05/2025 23:20

BHBlue · 23/05/2025 22:40

Amazing! Well done those two. This is just the beginning. I have no questions tbh from congratulations

Calm down, they both just earn a lot of money. It doesn’t say anything else about them — they might be great people or awful people or anything in between. Congratulations aren’t really necessary.

Skooled · 23/05/2025 22:11

How does he feel about his girlfriend earning 50% more than him?

And how does he feel about “mum” bragging?

This. 😬

Moier · 23/05/2025 23:00

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ho much does the dog’s GF earn?

EilishMcCandlish · 23/05/2025 23:30

AMA you say?

What did you have for dinner?
What is your job?
Do you even have a job?
Where did you last go on holiday?
Do you have a cat? A dog?
Do you like tulips?
Have you got any allergies?
Is it half term this week or next?

Shetlands · 23/05/2025 23:33

PlutoCat · 23/05/2025 22:39

My cat 🐈 earns £3 million a year doing adverts for Dreamies.

That's impressive!

Our hamster does Tarot card readings for £50 a go and the goldfish will have a crack at a Tom Daley impression for a tenner.

JohnMajorsChicken · 23/05/2025 23:33

Woop-ti-fucking-dooo!
Why is this your ama?

RampantIvy · 23/05/2025 23:35

And my nearly 25 year old daughter has a £6k NHS bursary while she is at university doing a masters to qualify for a position that the NHS is crying out for.

No need to AMA 😁

abricotine · 23/05/2025 23:35

Totallymessed · 23/05/2025 22:15

Does he pay for you to fly first class?

Nobody’s mum is flying first on 120k.

abricotine · 23/05/2025 23:37

It’s great OP, assuming he can maintain his earning power and enjoys his work, what really are we meant to ask? He’s a bright boy, he’s worked hard and is doing well, and his girlfriend the same. I’m not really sure what you are expecting we will be asking you?

nayber · 23/05/2025 23:47

IWasBornIn1989 · 23/05/2025 22:40

It’s possible, my ex had a whopping six figure salary at 23yrs. He was a whopping arsehole too, but that’s another story 😆

The thing is, that's selling your 20's pretty cheaply. Most of my friendship group are former or current bankers and lawyers, and their 20s were pretty darn miserable. Things might be different now.....

When I began a relationship with my husband 17 years ago he was on £150k at 28 years old at an American law firm and we couldn't really plan anything because he was always on call. Weekends away hed be stuck working or just had to fly back because of some transaction or other.

It's a lot of money, but not so much when you factor in hours....

My friends who stuck with law at those magic circle or american firms are earning in excess of £1m per year now, but knowing what I do about life until the last 5 years for them, I don't regret my decision to not do a law conversion.

Horses for courses. I hope the young couple in question are happy, if so that's worth even more than they are being paid and i hope it continues!

Kelticgold · 23/05/2025 23:18

He earns less than her!

Yellowhammer09 · 23/05/2025 23:57

I'm glad they're doing do well. Good for them!

However, the AMA part doesn't make sense. Did you think it meant something else?

cherish123 · 23/05/2025 23:57

180k is a lot for a lawyer. Presumably she must be a barrister or similar.

LadyGAgain · 24/05/2025 00:00

What’s your point? Perhaps many couples on here have a similar joint income. And your point is what?

Feelingstrange2 · 24/05/2025 00:00

I've more time for a mumsnetter whose kids are earning 50k. One on 25k as a primary school teacher and the other on 25k as a policeman.

Quite standard in a city firm these days for a few years PQE

SwornToSilence · 24/05/2025 00:02

What an incredibly crass thread

echt · 24/05/2025 00:02

Did you mean this literally in that posters can ask questions but you don't answer them?

Also, he's not from a comprehensive, he's from what you are .

Primary teachers now earn a lot more. Top of the scale, unpromoted is 50k.

notsureonthisone · 24/05/2025 00:15

GF is underachieving for a lawyer. My friend is on £2.5 million and has her own firm. Do you think your DS should LTB?

HeySugarSugar · 24/05/2025 00:18

tara66 · 23/05/2025 23:08

Remember they will go into the 55% tax bracket.

I’ll get my tiny violin out 😂
