Tell me your rubbish ‘I need to be the adult’ situation to make me feel better.

Lots of general life stuff going on, elderly parents, GCSEs, working full time, bills, house stuff breaking down etc…

But the new situation that I know I need to sort out because I’m the adult in this house is…

Rats living under decking.

FFS I just want to stamp my foot and get someone else to sort this out.

When did adulting become so fucking relentless and draining???

So tell me, what is your current ‘grown up in the house’ task? Keep me company!

Mother has recently died, haven't spoken to her in years. Dad now back in contact but it's weird....dad now talking like nothing happened and we've just picked up where we left off.
I want to ask loads of questions but he's just lost his wife of over 40 years.
Household task that needs sorting- got an issue with my car. Can't find the head space to deal with it all so I generally drink red wine and forget about it 🤷‍♀️

@RedRosesAndGypsophelia that sounds incredibly tough! I hope you get the chance to ask those questions, don’t feel guilty for wanting to ask them, seams pretty human to me!

Yes red wine is one of thee perks of being an adult!

Mine was very minor. A truly giant spider walked up the sofa and towards DD and I.

It took all of my adulting skills to remain calm, deal with the monster and set a good example. I wanted to run away screaming.

I have to get power of attorney over one of my mum's bank accounts. Last time I did this it took five separate visits to the bank, being treated like a scheming criminal when all I was doing was accessing her funds to pay her care home fees. Now I need to do the same again for a savings account and it has already taken days with zero progress. I haven't the time or energy and wish my retired sister would offer but she's on permanent holiday abroad. So I'll just have to take unpaid days off work to sort it out. Sigh.

To be fair, DH does a lot of the adulting in our house, so I should be able to cope with this extra. But he is also retired. And I can't retire gor another six years and am so permanently ill and exhausted.

Moved to a rural location recently.

Rats and flies. I win.

60andcounting · 23/05/2025 14:18

On the rat situation... Peanut butter mixed with bicarbonate of soda is supposed to be good. They will eat it and take it back to babies
Not kind I know, but needs must.

RachelRosing · 23/05/2025 14:23

Get someone to fix the rat problem. We had them in the house - got in via the drain. Rat Man plugged up all the entry spots and got rid of existing rats. Sorry, but rats under decking will become rats in house. Ours started under the shed (probably back under the shed but not in the house). Adulting sucks.

Put wrong fuel in my husbands car today. Very expensive. Had to get replacement brake pads for my car on Wednesday. Had to pay his speeding fine on Thursday (from our joint account but still I needed to do it as he didn’t have the headspace)
Have had to unblock the toilet numerous times this week. Deal with emotional tween.
I am done with this adulting and just want to be a kid again

Fedupwiththecuts · 23/05/2025 16:18

We got a parking ticket this week because I forgot to renew the permit. No space in my brain for adulting. Sigh.
