I loooooove stationery (notebooks, pens, crayons, washi tape, stickers, etc) and love to spend time looking and browsing. I can’t afford high end products so find myself in smiths and rymans (as well as on line). Are there any other good stationery shops where I could mooch around and increase my stash of goodies? I am in the midlands but we do lots of city breaks / holidays as well, including Devon, Cornwall and London.

i quite agree with the prices have you tried The Works especially at sale time? you can do online but they have lots of shops across the uk

HonestAquaMember · 20/05/2025 13:07

Not a physical shop, but Cult Pens online are brilliant! Great customer service and a wide range of products, both budget and high end :)

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/05/2025 13:44

A big branch of The Range usually has some good stationery, and TKMaxx worth a look.

EverythingIsComputer · 20/05/2025 13:56

I have dreams of being allowed a trolley dash in the Cult Pens warehouse, I love their site

Perplexed20 · 20/05/2025 13:57

Love a browse in Post mark, now paper chase is sadly no more.

There's a nice one in Lancaster called Analog. There used to be an absolutely wonderful one in Kendal, but it closed down a few years ago Sad I still miss it!

Flying Tiger and Sostrene Grene are great for quirky or pretty budget stationery. The latter is gradually expanding in the UK… we’ve just had a shop open up near us. Before that, I stocked up whenever I was in London. Online, I like Rex of London.

Forgottenmyphone · 05/08/2025 13:31

BM Bargains has a lot of nice stationery in at the moment.

Ilovewillow · 05/08/2025 13:47

I also came to say Cult Pens - awesome!

I totally get you – I’m the same, I can lose hours just browsing notebooks, pens, washi tape and all those stationery goodies. I usually end up in Smiths or Rymans too, but I’ve also found some lovely indie spots when I’m out and about. In London, places like Paperchase on Oxford Street and smaller boutiques in Covent Garden are great for a mooch. When I’m online though, I love exploring Me Loovely – they’ve got gorgeous personalised letter sets, greeting cards and art prints that feel really special without being super high-end in price, plus they offer free UK delivery, which makes it even better for topping up my stash.

There’s a flying tiger opening in merry hill OP depending on where you are in the Midlands .

If you make it down to Sherborne at all in Dorset there is a beautiful proper stationery shop at the top of the high street. Pens out the front and planners/diaries/notebooks at the back of the shop.

If you're looking for independent, kolourcafe is worth a mooch - decent washi, stickers, and organisers (online only though). I just bought one of the Kaku journals as I love the feel of the cosmo air paper. For trips, indie gift shops in Totnes, St Ives, or London's Søstrene Grene often have surprise stationery corners too. Happy hunting!

TheDutchHouse · 19/08/2026 17:59

I second flying tiger !
also try independents

HelenaWilson · 19/08/2026 18:10

I agree The Works and The Range. Not expensive, so you can buy lots of stuff. (I think The Works might have stopped their online shop.)

Museums and other attractions often have nice pens and notebooks. You're supporting the museum too, especially if it's free, and have a souvenir of your visit that's useful and not just tat.

whistlesandbells · 19/08/2026 18:27

MUJI - I like the aesthetic and functionality. Reasonable prices too.

Stop pootling around the UK and get yourself to Japan! 😉 I was in stationery heaven! But in all seriousness, look for UK stockists of Japanese stationery, best of both worlds.

Or New Zealand! The $1 ,$2,$3 stores do awesome stationery!
Meanwhile back in Blighty home Bargains does functional stationery. Dorchester has a brilliant art shop which also has some nice stationery bits, can’t remember it’s name but it’s a bit further up the road from Wetherspoons! and a second vote for Sherborne, which is a pretty little town and well worth a visit anyway!
