On a scale of 1-10, how embarrassed would you be if someone walked into your house right now?

1 being not at all embarrassed, 10 being totally embarrassed?

I’d say my house is currently about a 5. It’s not terrible but equally the bathroom is overdue a clean, there’s baby toys all over the place and some cat fluff on the carpet that needs hoovering up. Even though I’m constantly hoovering 😂🤦‍♀️

People that know me a 3. People that don't a 6. The neighbour two down 8.

Tisfortired · 19/05/2025 17:41

I should by rights be about a 7/8 but I have become
so accustomed to the chaos I no longer give a shit and people find us how they find us.

thiswilloutme · 19/05/2025 17:43

1 - I’ve actually just had two electricians in - never occurred to me to tidy up for them 😆

TheDogsMother · 19/05/2025 18:14
  1. It is pretty minimal so always very tidy. I would add that we don’t have kids so it’s easy to keep it this way.
SchrodingersTwat2 · 19/05/2025 18:15
  1. Purely because the bathroom needs cleaning.
Nugg · 19/05/2025 18:26
  1. its usually cleanish and always tidy
MellowPinkDeer · 19/05/2025 18:28

Literally 0. My house is never messy / not clean. People could turn up at any time and I’d be delighted to see them and welcome them in.

Funnyduck60 · 20/05/2025 13:02
  1. My DM was always embarrassed by the state of her house. Vowed I wouldn't be and am rarely messy, even when I had small kids.
HelpMeGetThrough · 20/05/2025 13:08

1 it’s spotless and tidy. I hate clutter and it has to be clean.

hoover upstairs and down every day and the kitchen and bathroom cleaned too.

coxesorangepippin · 20/05/2025 13:19

2

Needs a vacuum but whatever

CharSiu · 20/05/2025 14:01

1 for everywhere except my bedroom which is a 2 as I have 2 big baskets of laundry that need to be put away.

strawlight · 20/05/2025 14:04

Most of my mates - 0
Mate with showroom house - 3
Family - 6

I’d run upstairs and wipe the bathroom over while pretending to have a wee though. Busy weekend, usual cleaning not done, blah blah blahhhh.

ZoggyStirdust · 20/05/2025 14:08

Main house 1. It’s usually pretty tidy so anyone is welcome any time.

annexe 7. It tends to be a bit messier as it’s games room and where teenagers hang out. It needs a clean tbh but presume any random pop ins won’t go in there…

Needspaceforlego · 20/05/2025 14:10

About a 3, normally it's about an 8.
But we had friends round at the weekend and gave it a tidy up.

susiedaisy1912 · 20/05/2025 14:13
  1. I hate living in a muddle
doIIydaydream · 20/05/2025 14:14

1 - my house is not perfect, but life is too short to give a damn what others think

MoominMai · 20/05/2025 14:31

10 - live alone and have no friends or family. I have quite a large home with 3 toilets, many rooms and large gardens. I’m recovering from a broken shoulder and metartasal and in between that and a break up, my mental health went down and I’ve also put 2 stone on. I work FT and think I’m a highly functioning depressive. People at work would have no clue of the squalor I live in. The longer it goes on though the harder it is to get on top of it. I feel I only have enough to show up for work and then just disappear into myself. It’s got to the point I wouldn’t know what to say to a cleaner to explain the mess. I literally just tiptoe and walk my way through it all. Last weekend I filled 6 bin bags just with the kitchen mess from 7 months accumulation. This is where I could do with family or a friend to confide in and just help me kickstart this. I’m utterly defeated by it and feel unable to do more than the bare minimum each day which is no good when I have 7 months of build up to address 😑

Needspaceforlego · 20/05/2025 14:37

@MoominMai bless you.
That sounds like a heavy load. I think all you can do is try and do a room at a time.
Or even a little bit of a room at a time.

Although I sometimes find it's easier to do a whole chuck rather than wee bits. I sometimes struggle to get started.

stayathomer · 20/05/2025 14:40

Because of my procrastinating in everything else I’m doing a fair amount of cleaning at the mo so I’d say I’m at the ‘oh this place is a bit of a mess, sorry’ (when it’s actually quite clean for us because I’m bad at cleaning 😅 so possibly a five too

stayathomer · 20/05/2025 14:42

MoominMai

hope things get easier. I think a cleaner would understand xxxx

XelaM · 20/05/2025 14:43

Usually 10 as it's normally a total disaster but I've just tidied up today so currently a 1 😃

Ficklebricks · 20/05/2025 14:44

Willyourselfforward · 19/05/2025 16:42

10
People would be horrified to see the squalor I live in.

You can come for tea at mine, you'll fit right in. You just need to shove a pile of parcels and magazines out of the way to excavate a seat on the sofa. Also don't use the loo because my kid probably hasn't flushed it.

Cynic17 · 20/05/2025 14:45

I mean, I'm fully clothed, so what would I have to be embarrassed about?

Meadowfinch · 20/05/2025 14:47
  1. But I'd be curious to know why someone is in my house when none of us are there.
XelaM · 20/05/2025 14:48

I'm so embarrassed about the mess usually that I don't want to call a cleaner as I needed to tidy up to even be able not to be too embarrassed to call a cleaner 🤦‍♀️ but just tidied up today so currently (for 1 day most likely) it's a 1 😃
