If you had gestational diabetes with your 1st child, did you get it with your 2nd?

I’m pregnant with #2 and REALLY want to try and avoid it this time, I also really want to avoid being induced.

Mine was diet controlled other than the 1st morning reading so I ended up on Metformin which worked.

I am high risk due to T1 parent, I’m not overweight and I’ve been eating healthily (although honestly could be better so will go for it from now 16wks) and exercising now that I don’t feel sick but curious to hear other experiences?

Also side note, if you had GD and you weren’t induced what was your experience?

Hi!
I did not!
Had expecting my first son. But I was extremely fit and ate well. gained only 8kgs! Had gestacional diabetes. Second pregnancy, my life was in shambles, ate only junk and gained 25kgs - no diabetes…
Every pregnancy is different!

I had it with all three, although I controlled it with diet for 2 and 3 and didn’t have to take metformin (which I did for first baby)
I was induced with number 2 and c section with number 3.

Yes had it with both. Both diet controlled, even better than the 2nd time round.
Induced 1st time; elective section 2nd time.

Mine got worse each pregnancy. Second and third I needed insulin and third led to a type 2 diagnosis within 12 months of birth.

I never had it with Dc2, diet controlled with Dc1. Dc3 diagnosed at 38 weeks but only after trust altered the result levels slightly pushing me into the GD group (in fairness it highlighted another major problem that had been missed-all fine eventually). Dc4 diagnosed at 16 weeks, first controlled in day, insulin for overnight fasting levels as could not control them at all.

Had it with both. Induced with no 1 and emergency section. Natural labour and emergency section with no 2. Both pregnancies controlled by diet.

I think I have a genetic predisposition to T2 as since I had the kids both my mum and brother have been diagnosed.

Thanks for your experiences, sounds like chances are it’ll happen again. I do think it’s hormonal to do with your placenta so maybe not in my control as much as I’d hope but doesn’t hurt to try
