I’ve lost my reading mojo. I need something easy to get into, absorbing and maybe thriller -ish but I’m open to genre on the whole.

Thanks!

Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead. Just such a compelling story. Read it a few summers ago, and it's stayed with me.

I loved “The last one at the Party”. There’s some great recommendations on the “what we’re reading” board.

I loved A thousand splendid suns. Not a thriller but I couldn’t put it down - and I’m not the best at staying focussed on books.

All the light we cannot see.... really gripping story line. Stephen booth has written a really good series of detective stories, set in the peak District. Enjoy! 😍

Salmon fishing in the Yemen

mugglewump · 18/05/2025 20:08

I've just finished American Dirt and found it gripping and brilliant.

The Push by Ashley Audrain. It’s dark, but I was completely gripped

How To Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie! Nothing like the title suggests but also exactly as the title suggests… it’s one of my favs! Or the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, I found engrossing.

Sparklehead · 18/05/2025 20:10

I’m reading ‘Beautiful People’ and loving it. Not a thriller but the story is rich and satisfying and the characters are wonderful,

MrsPlantagenet · 18/05/2025 20:10

The Bee Sting.

FoxChops · 18/05/2025 20:10

Thanks! I’ve downloaded some of these samples

I’ve always wanted to read all the light we cannot see and a thousand splendid suns but I’m daunted! Dunno why

I second this one!

’Gentleman and Players’ by Joanne Harris is a brilliant thriller..in fact, it’s time I gave it a re-read!

Also set in a school (of a sort), I’ve just read ‘Amber Fury’ by Natalie Haynes. It has the feel of a Greek tragedy (unsurprisingly, given the author) and is quite gripping.

supafish · 18/05/2025 20:14

A thousand splendid suns is my favourite book ever - well worth a read

WisePearlPoet · 18/05/2025 20:15

The Warsaw Anagram by Richard Zimmler
A Good Enough Mother by Bev Sullivan , I think
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rodney
Behind the Scenes at the Museum by Kate Atkinson

MrsPlantagenet · 18/05/2025 20:16

How nice to see a thread where no one has suggested tripe! Some really great reads on here.

Wildehorses · 18/05/2025 20:17

Also highly recommend American Dirt

WinterFrogs · 18/05/2025 20:19

I find anything by MJ Arlidge very gripping. Eeny Meeny is the first in the DI Helen Grace series and even the reluctant (adult) readers in my family couldn't put it down.
Highly recommend.

AnneKipankitoo · 18/05/2025 20:20

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

AnneKipankitoo · 18/05/2025 20:21

Out by Natsuo Kirino.

shellyleppard · 18/05/2025 20:21

@FoxChops all the light we cannot see is really good..its a circular story as in how the characters intertwine with each other.....a fools alphabet by Sebastian faulks is another similar circular story. The seventh son by Sebastian faulks is really gripping and close to the current world.

GreenSedan · 18/05/2025 20:21

I am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes. A total page turner!

Also the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy.

Coffeecakebakes · 18/05/2025 20:21

Tim Weaver’s David Raker series (not the first one). Anything by Ann Cleeves. The Dry by Jane Harper. Three Hours by Rosamund Lipton. Kolymsky Heights by Lionel Davidson.

AnneKipankitoo · 18/05/2025 20:22

Birnam Wood, Eleanor Catton
