I’ve lost my reading mojo. I need something easy to get into, absorbing and maybe thriller -ish but I’m open to genre on the whole.

Thanks!

Stalled at 40% with this one (the mother's section). Does it improve again? I really enjoyed the first bit.

Yes, give it another go!!

Although I enjoyed all the characters' view points i did find it overly long and didn't love the very contrived ending.

Still a great read.

Thrillers/psychological

  • The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson. Brilliant thriller! And then The Kind Worth Saving is a good follow up.
  • The Only Suspect by Louise Candlish or The Passenger.
  • The Good Girl by Mary Kubica.

Other

  • Thousand Splendid Suns and also And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini.
  • Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Takes a while to get into it, but it is written well and i found it to be quite emotional.

The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead

Nesting by Roisin O’Donnell

The Unspeakable Acts of Zena Pavlou by Eleni Kyriakou

The Venice Hotel by Tess Woods. Very topical at the moment - covers religion, sexuality, ethical tourism, climate change and the sacrifices mothers make. And really well written

"Watership Down" by Richard Adams. About 50 years ago I read it non-stop, from about 4 in the afternoon till 7 in the morning.

Recently read The Stepford Wives and Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin, both were a good read. Currently reading Holly by Stephen King, a dark thriller, no supernatural themes to it.

Agree with these :
A thousand splendid suns
I am pilgrim
The family upstairs

Would add :
Into the darkest corner
We need to talk about Kevin
A place of execution

By Sarah Winman - Still Life and When God Was A Rabbit. Both books beautifully written and I didn’t want either book to finish.

Sebastian Faulks - Birdsong

Michael Connelly - The Law of Innocence (or any of the Lincoln Lawyer books - cracking fast paced reads)

Bob Mortimer - The Satsuma Complez - quirky novel, I laughed out loud. Good crime novel.

Alice Winn In Memoriam

Absolutely beautiful and devastating in equal measure

Oh god, this was the worst book I have read in a long time! I do not get the hype at all!!

Just shows, different folks, VERY different strokes!
