I haven't stayed there, but I have eaten at The Globe and it was very good. An easy walk through town. Do you know Wells? It's on the harbour - the beach itself is about a 10 minute walk from town. But it's a great beach!

There's a nice hotel in Blakeney, about 5 miles along the coast.

SuffolkBargeWoman · 17/05/2025 13:45

As a local I'd stay in Blakeney rather than Wells.
Is there a particular reason you want to be in Wells?

HeddaGarbled · 17/05/2025 13:47

Wells isn’t very big so not much in the way of hotels. It’s more of a self-catering cottage or caravan sort of place. Possibly some B&Bs.

Springhassprungxx · 17/05/2025 13:50

Only a b&b in Wells that l know of or a couple of pubs, not hotels.
Wells gets very busy but l would still rather stay there than anywhere l'd habe to drive in from.
Lovely place

If it's just you and DP, and you want to stay in Wells, you cannot do better than one of the Barefoot Retreats holiday cottages tbh in terms of costing - and spend the money saved at decent restaurants (Socius, for example, is incredible and only 5 mins drive down the road in Burnham market).

Don't stay at the Blakeney Hotel - the accommodation is far more expensive than a holiday let would be (and Blakeney just has nothing there - other than walks, you'll be driving to anything good). Plus it's gone past 'shabby chic' to just shabby. Blakeney has two coffee shops, one is only open four days a week and the other is honestly awful and most of the shops are likewise only open 4 days a week [even in peak season].

Blakeney has more than you need for a couple of days!

The Moorings restaurant is good, as is Blakeney House (which also has rooms) and the White Horse gastro pub and Kings Arms pub grub.

Plus cafes.

It has great coast walks in either direction but not beach walks.

Wells has the fabulous beach and woods.

There is an excellent Coasthopper bus service so you could walk the coast path between Blakeney and Wells in either direction and get the bus back.

Brancaster and Thornham have beach walks.

Many years ago when my late DH and I got engaged we escaped to Wells for a few days. It was this time of year and similar weather.
I lay on the beach at Holkham and fell asleep. No word of a lie I woke up with a second degree burn on my thigh.. (DH was a nurse)
It was so (not) romantic that night. DH turned over in the bed and I hissed "DONT YOU TOUCH ME DONT COME NEAR ME!!"
I then proceeded to get the cushions off the sofa and put them.down the middle of the bed...!!

I hope you manage to find something both nice and affordable. Hunstanton is a little bit tacky in places but Old Hunstanton is nice. From there on heading East it's all lovely. Anywhere you can find and afford along that North Norfolk stretch of coast will be pretty, and great for walking. Try the villages - Thornham, Brancaster etc.

MarshaMarshaMarsha · 17/05/2025 16:43

Briarsfield hotel in Titchwell or The globe in Wells itself are both lovely.

MarshaMarshaMarsha · 17/05/2025 16:44

There is also The White Horse in Brancaster but have not stayed there myself.

Biscuitsneeded · 17/05/2025 16:45

The Ship in Brancaster says it is due to open after renovation this weekend. Bit cheaper perhaps?

Eggybreadwithnuts · 17/05/2025 16:48

Yes was looking at old Hunstanton

What's in Brancaster...much to do?

It's pretty small but there's a NT office and you can walk. If you want things to do, you may need to get in the car wherever you stay. But in the area there are seal trips, lovely walks, pretty villages, Holkham Hall, beaches etc. Small towns like Burnham Market, Holt, Blakeney etc all lovely but very very posh. Hunstanton has more touristy stuff (amusements, mini golf, sea life centre etc) but it's a little bit tacky.

What about a B&B somewhere? Might be cheaper but you still don't have to make breakfast! Or the Manor in Blakeney has some packages - not super cheap but if it includes breakfast and dinner etc maybe worth considering? https://blakeneymanor.co.uk/offers/

Biscuitsneeded · 17/05/2025 17:01

How about this B&B?

Nobody seems to have mentioned it yet but there is a really nice B&B in Wells called the Old Custom House:

https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g315941-d2070012-Reviews-The_Old_Custom_House-Wells_next_the_Sea_Norfolk_East_Anglia_England.html

Prices are about £165 per night for two people.
.

Or, there are a lot of static caravans in Wells, some of them literally no more than 2 minutes walk from the beach. These start from about £175 per night for a two bed caravan

Don't discount Pinewoods because it's mobiles. We've stayed there a few times as zma friend had a mobile there and it's upmarket for a mobile site - quinoa chips in the site shop and all that. It's right next to the beach and there's a nice café by the beach car park. Town is a pleasant short walk along the estuary. Love Frenchies for fish and chips to eat by the harbour and we always used to go to Wells Crab House but you need to book there in advance. But accommodation in Wells is never cheap.
Friend has got rid of the mobile now their kids are grown so it's usually a day trip for us now. Park at Holkham, cake in the Lookout café, walk to Wells for fish and chips, coffee and doggy ice cream at the beach cafe then walk back. Perfect day.

The Railway Hotel in Burnham Market is lovely and is run by Barefoot Retreats. It is a boutique hotel. Burnham Market is only 5 miles from Wells. My husband and I travel to North Norfolk every 6-8 weeks for a couple of nights and always stay at The Railway now. As mentioned above Socius restaurant in Burnham Market is absolutely fabulous.
