Using the word “little” to mean baby/child - just why

Feel like I’m hearing this suddenly - has it been around for ages? Anyone else find it vom inducing?

“I met Sam’s new little”
“Going to the park with the littles”
”My little isn’t very well”

I realise this is not AIBU and also that I am probably BU but am I alone?

It’s been around for ages but yes it’s vom inducing… same as ‘the boy’ for me
