Has anyone done private allergy testing for penicillin?

Several years ago I had an enormous hives reaction five days into a course of amoxicillin. Literally head to toe and covered. Ended up being sent to A&E by the GP. Lots of steroids and I was told to assume penicillin allergy.

However, it’s not on my records as a diagnosed allergy and when I’ve queried this since, the GP has told me they wouldn’t bother testing as they’d assume allergy based on that reaction. I don’t like that this isn’t noted anywhere but I also think (and I realise I’m not a doctor) it seems to tally with amoxicillin rash rather than true allergy.

I’d quite like a definitive answer so I’m not unnecessarily avoiding penicillin for the rest of my days (there’s also the issue that if it is an actual allergy and I’m somehow given it unaware then that won’t be fun).

Has anyone been through private testing? I’d prefer to go with one of the bigger providers who I’ve heard of before, such as Imperial or Circle. What sort of cost might I be looking at?

I don’t understand. You have a diagnosed allergy. You just need to ask them to add it to your records. They will take your word for it. I am allergic to penicillin and I’m asked and tell them. I also have a number of allergies found via patch testing. I have told the GP what they are. For some reason derm didn’t send a letter to me or then confirming the results.
