No hayfever this year (anyone else?)

Normally I get pretty bad hayfever from mid-March to around now, from tree pollen.

I had it for a few days in March and then it just disappeared. Especially odd as it's been warm and sunny which normally flares it up.

Anyone else had no or much milder hayfever this year?

Well that's interesting because I don't usually consider I'm a hay-fever sufferer, although will have a sore throat and scratchy eyes on the worst days.

This year I've been awful with a constantly steaming nose, sore throat, cough etc since mid March, until last week.

Same for me. Don't suffer every year but this year has been very noticeable.
I'd love to know which pollen or factors make a difference to me.

PositiveLife · 14/05/2025 12:38

I usually suffer dreadfully with sneezing and itchy eyes. This year I've had very little of that but feel much more wheezy.

Dd doesn't usually get hayfever but she's had itchy throat/sneezing, etc.

Mine isn’t bad but it’s definitely still here unfortunately. I wonder if the pollen is lower in some areas but not in others

Less hay fever than usual: Yorkshire

Hkgyvd · 14/05/2025 13:13

Mine has been terrible for the last six weeks but seems to be easing a little

TorturedParentsDepartment · 14/05/2025 14:25

Last year in particular mine was horrendous - especially as I live between two nature reserves (it's a hard life huh) and spend a lot of time driving around in the countryside on work visits. This year - not a sausage, from neither me or the kids who both get it at various levels.

East Midlands.

Oddly this seems to be the total opposite. Office colleagues with no history of hayfever are really suffering, I’ve had sporadic hayfever over the years and have had puffy itchy eyes over the past few weeks.
horses are also getting bothered by something, suspect tree pollen which is more prevalent this year, but no idea what the unusual culprit is!

Marchhare80 · 14/05/2025 14:36

We have 2 tree pollen sufferers in our house who have both had a bad year. Awful march and april. Must be parts of the country.

I don't want to jinx things but I've been fine so far.
I usually suffer badly from March onwards and have done for about 10 years.
Interesting the linked article about probiotics. I have been taking them for about 4m now

It sounds like they're working for you, too.

I wish I had known about probiotics and seasonal allergies a few decades ago. So much misery could have been avoided.

Pleasestopjumpingonthesofa · 14/05/2025 18:37

Mine's been worse than usual for the last month or so, in the SE. Been on daily antihistamines for at least a month and it's still bad some days!

MiloMinderbinder925 · 14/05/2025 18:54

I'm the opposite, for the past few years my hay fever has been negligible but this year it killed me. It seems to have died down at the moment though.

AlmostCutMyHairToday · 14/05/2025 19:05

Could there be a link to age? I'm late 30s and still have hayfever this year, but I live in hope that I'll outgrow it eventually??

Don't count on it. I'm in my 60s and haven't outgrown it.

Vitrolinsanity · 14/05/2025 19:45

Nope. Worst year since my mid-20’s when I was able to get shots. Better this week as there’s less cloud cover. My eyes make me look like a white rat.

Vitrolinsanity · 14/05/2025 19:48

Mine is tree pollen and I’m allergic to tree nuts. Never had hay fever until I was 21, tree nut allergy began in my 40’s.

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 14/05/2025 19:51

I'm in the SE and was also thinking earlier this week that I appear to have dodged hayfever (so far) this year. Very interesting thread

Marmiteontoastgirlie · 14/05/2025 21:41

I have had none and thought I got away with it but this week has been hell! Still wondering if it’s a cold but my nose is STREAMING

OneFineDay13 · 14/05/2025 22:11

Yes none here either

Rollofrockandsand · 14/05/2025 22:49

My boys have both had it off the scale badly this year as has my nephew

PLHJ84 · 15/05/2025 22:58

No idea whats going on but past couple of years i’ve had spring / summer “colds” & a fee people have said hay fever but i’ve never had it. This week though has been terrible - sore watery eyes last week, sneezing a lot and on Sunday started with a cold again but this is different to the past few colds i’ve had no worsening of symptoms and no green snot etc so i’m wondering if it could be but would i be blocked up for a few days then slightly better but then blocked again? By blocked up its like a really stuffy nose which varies how bad, i’ve been sneezing but also nose streaming but like water? Bit of a dry throat too. Probably is just a cold but it’s a weird one if it is. I naively thought hayfever would be an “attack” then go away not be constant but pollen count low as well here it’s so random whatever it is!

GellerYeller · 16/05/2025 20:09

My eyes-usually I’m a sneezer- have been AWFUL this past fortnight.
My youngest has allergy triggered asthma and hives.
An online check says our local tree pollen is very high.
