No hayfever this year (anyone else?)

Normally I get pretty bad hayfever from mid-March to around now, from tree pollen.

I had it for a few days in March and then it just disappeared. Especially odd as it's been warm and sunny which normally flares it up.

Anyone else had no or much milder hayfever this year?

DS2 has had some bad days but I've not been too bad, on the whole and DS1 hasn't been affected at all, yet. I think it's because it's been dry so there's not many spores in the air. I turn into a sea of snot after a thunderstorm!

Cryingatthegym · 13/05/2025 17:54

This happens to me some years, tree pollen sufferer also. This year I'm suffering mildly (in the UK), but when I recently went to France it was AWFUL.

Covidwoes · 13/05/2025 17:57

I started yesterday after no symptoms at all! Took fexofenadine today and feel much better.

Dh hasn't been too bad and he usually suffers: especially early in the season.
I've never had it before, but keep having sneezing fits. Confused

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 13/05/2025 18:03

I take fexofenadine March-Oct and use OTC nasal sprays and eye drops daily from May - Sept. No respite this year, symptoms are breaking through with a vengeance on high pollen days - swollen/itchy/dry eyes (eyeballs and surrounding skin), tight chest, itchy/popping ears, running nose/sneezing, itchy roof of mouth. Vile.

I think I'm sensitive to all of the pollen types, given I get it early, mid and late in the season.

Icexream · 13/05/2025 18:06

Well that's interesting because I don't usually consider I'm a hay-fever sufferer, although will have a sore throat and scratchy eyes on the worst days.

This year I've been awful with a constantly steaming nose, sore throat, cough etc since mid March, until last week.

ThePoshUns · 13/05/2025 18:13

Yes! I usually get it early Spring, have had one day where I have taken antihistamine but nothing else at all. Thought it was just me being weird.

Ilovelowry · 13/05/2025 18:15

Worse spring I've had in ten years.
I'm on two prescription fexofenadines a day 12hrs apart. Plus momethasone in the nose. And eye drops!

ParsnipPuree · 13/05/2025 18:22

Don’t think the pollen count’s been too high..YET.

Notquitegrownup2 · 13/05/2025 20:17

Absolutely awful for me this year. What an intriguing thread!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 13/05/2025 20:33

Thank you for taking one for the team, @123ZYX !

On the other hand... and there I was, thinking that I was FINALLY growing out of it after 22 years, only to find that it must be a weird year for pollen, according to everyone else 😁

lljkk · 13/05/2025 20:36

That's funny because I'm inexplicably congested in recent days with no other symptoms of 'having a cold', and was suspecting hayfever. I officially don't have HF but thought maybe it could suddenly start at any age. <shrug>

ClassicalQueen · 13/05/2025 20:37

I’ve been suffering today but it’s the first day all year! Just constant sneezes at work every time I stepped outside or by a window.

StMarie4me · 13/05/2025 20:39

We’re all really bad and counts have been high this year due to the dry weather. You guys are just lucky I guess!

StrongandNorthern · 13/05/2025 20:41

Mine has been off the scale this year.
Worst I've ever known.
(Is it regional 🤔? ... I'm in South Yorks).

writingsonthewall · 13/05/2025 20:44

Same here it’s really weird

Fearfulsaints · 13/05/2025 20:45

Mine is much milder this year. It's very odd.

CarrieLite · 13/05/2025 20:51

Flippen eck I wish! It's so bad I can't sleep! I have to choose between sneezing all night with the windows open or sweltering to death with them closed. Been terrible today, I feel awful! 🤒

NotDarkGothicMama · 13/05/2025 20:58

I thought I'd gotten away with it this year but have been itchy and sniffly today.

Icanttakeanymore1 · 13/05/2025 21:00

Don't have the gritty eyes. But have an ongoing cold, without the usual symptoms. So wonder if there is something else going on with haayfever this year.

Digdongdoo · 13/05/2025 21:07

Mine's worse than ever this year!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/05/2025 21:10

DS’s hayfever has been awful for the past 3 years but he hasn’t had any symptoms at all this year. Really strange but he’s definitely not complaining.

NewsdeskJC · 13/05/2025 21:10

I have literally not had hay-fever this year.
There seems to be a (tenous) link to a gluten free diet. That's the only difference for me. Had hay-fever March to October for 50 years.
Go figure!

ManchesterLu · 13/05/2025 21:11

Weirdly enough my symptoms have been eerily mild this year. The occasional itchy eye (not bad enough for me to rub it raw) and a bit snotty, literally just enough to wipe my nose maybe twice a day. Nothing at all like it usually is. I'm usually suffering majorly by this point.

Loopylalalou · 13/05/2025 21:20

I usually get hayfever enough to need to keep it controlled by a daily tablet. But on the Sunday before last I woke up unable to hear hardly at all, thick throat, sore ears and a running nose. Strongly antihistamines have helped, but it’s definitely hay fever.
