No hayfever this year (anyone else?)

Normally I get pretty bad hayfever from mid-March to around now, from tree pollen.

I had it for a few days in March and then it just disappeared. Especially odd as it's been warm and sunny which normally flares it up.

Anyone else had no or much milder hayfever this year?

Same here - no symptoms beyond slightly itchy eyes a couple of times, usually suffering by now - weird!

RunningJo · 13/05/2025 21:25

I wish, mine started in Feb and has been awful

Kate3150 · 13/05/2025 21:26

I’ve had a real rough couple of days with it.
Every year I think it will escape me, but nope 🙂‍↔️ 🤧

Not needed meds so far this year, but tbf it’s normally later this month I get symptoms

How very strange! Yes could it be regional in some way? I'm in the South East. Maybe our birch trees round here have had some sort of pollen failure?!

DS who normally suffers really badly has taken no medication this year so far. I was wondering if he’d grown out of it!

Usually on fexofenadine from April until September but not been troubled so far....very strange!

WhatMe123 · 13/05/2025 21:38

Mines been overall better, still had the odd bad day but much much better. Im trees too

ConsternationStation · 13/05/2025 21:41

Mine was awful at the end of March and for most of April. Terrible sinus pressure causing jaw pain and earaches, alongside the usual sneezing and streaming eyes. Fortunately it's much better now.

Mine have been much milder this year, but only because I found out accidentally that probiotics can moderate them.

Treatment of Allergic Rhinitis with Probiotics: An Alternative Approach

I came off antibiotics for a dental procedure, took a high potency probiotic and overnight most of my seasonal allergy symptoms disappeared.

@MissConductUS can you link to what helped please?

Sister just started at the weekend! Misery for the next 2 months!

MargaritaPracticallyCan · 13/05/2025 22:26

My youngest DC, 19, is the only one in our family with hayfever, usually has or very bad from March to late summer, takes fexofendine. But this year, very mild and it's only just started this past week or so.

Certainly, but this particular brand has to be cold shipped and may not be available in the UK:

https://www.vsl3.com/

They have a shelf stable product called VSL4 with the same bacterial strains at a lower potency. If you can’t get either where you live you could try getting recommendations from a gastroenterologist practice.

Good luck. I still can’t believe how effective it’s been. My symptoms are usually so bad I sometimes have to go on prednisone for them.

Edit: I’ve just had another look at the article I linked and VSL3 was mentioned as being the treatment in one of the studies, but it also mentions specific bacterial strains that were found effective in other studies.

Horrendous tree pollen south west this year

Wardrobehanger · 13/05/2025 23:50

mine doesn’t normally kick in fully until later in May but touch wood it does seem milder so far this year.
We have had a lot of glorious weather though-very little rain. I wonder if that’s had anything to do with it?

GellerYeller · 13/05/2025 23:57

Got my usual stuffed nose, not much sneezing but horrendously itchy eyes.
We are surrounded by fields and the rapeseed is especially bad for me. There’s a lady living nearest the field who claimed it gave her dog hay fever symptoms when it flowered!

StarlightLady · 14/05/2025 04:18

This has been one of my worst years for hay fever ever 🙁.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/05/2025 07:42

Interesting! Everyone I know locally (s/w Yorks) who suffers, has said it's worse than usual.

hennybeans · 14/05/2025 08:32

Mine is usually bad from end of April to end of July , grass pollen. I am a little sneezy but hardly noticeable compared to what I would usually be like mid- May.

I was wondering if it’s the Mounjaro I’m taking and was going to start a thread asking on the WLI board. It reduces inflammation, so maybe? Nothing else has changed and it’s been very dry and warm which usually means terrible hay fever.

Signedcopy · 14/05/2025 12:13

Those of you with marked changes in either direction, if you are happy to, can you say which region you are in? No need to be more specific just eg NE?

Not much so far here. The water level is very low here and ponds etc dried up so maybe less grass here or crops

WhycantBarryswim · 14/05/2025 12:24

My hayfever was awful on Monday so I thought here we go but yesterday and today nothing at all, I bought the Dymista spray on monday from the chemist first time its been available over the counter I'm wondering if its a coincidence or is it a miracle drug!
