There was a storm yesterday where I live. Got home to find several inches of very dark, dirty water in utility room. The room is lowest in house and it came up through drains. Still waiting for water company to come.

im worried about the damage- it is a lot and now water has drained away it’s a mess. Has this happened to anyone else and what things should I think about? We’ve been washing hands, using anti-bacterial and hand sanitiser etc. keeping cats out. Taken lots of photos - don’t know if we claim through water company??

Agree with pp, you need to contact your insurance company.

You need to call your insurance company either way. It's part of the terms that you tell them of any event where you may have to make a claim.

Also if you don't call them and the damage gets worse they may refuse the claim because you didn't notify them immediately.

Phone them.

Flooding causes all kinds of issues in a house some of which may not be immediately visible and a lot are expensive to fix. They may also cause health issues if not dealt with properly. You really need to contact your insurance company and get the damage properly assessed and fixed.
