Vinted pile does my head in

😆 don’t get me wrong, I love Vinted.
but our spare room is taken over by the piles of things people might not actually buy

  • the toddler clothing bundles cos they grow so fast there’s constant clothes
  • the cheapo fast fashion stuff I bought and now obviously no one else wants it either
  • The really nice baby clothes I’m either waiting to pass on to my sisters or might keep myself but we’re undecided about another.
☕️ tell me your irrational Vinted pains

Vinted is my new ADHD hyperfocus so I have a huge plie in my bedroom, with bags, tape and scissors, it's like a factory. I find it strange what sells sometimes but I've been doing well with summer dresses.
I've lost a lot of weight and I had so much stuff, I think I bought to make myself feel better, now I'm selling it for a pittance. Some things I sort of want to keep so intentionally price it higher and then I'm sad when it sells 😄

WaltzingWaters · 13/05/2025 11:13

I only bother selling nicer bits now that will get a minimum of £10, like coats or nice dresses. Anything else sent to charity. I can’t be bothered with packaging stuff and going to the post office to make £1.

Edited to add, the things i do sell I list on both ebay and Vinted, I find that eBay usually actually sells better.

eBay is much better, and the customers are nicer in my experience

From a buyers perspective: the amount of times my DD has seen something catch her eye… but the photos are blurry, don’t show the whole article, are extremely creased, do not show the labels (so many listing say size 12 but the label says 16), don’t show any close ups of damage/stains and NO MEASUREMENTS! She’s always asking vendors how long skirts are. Or she doesn’t bother so no sale. And please don’t stuff the clothes in - fold them before posting.
She’s found a few great buys but has also been very disappointed- part and parcel of buying off a photo. She’s not looking for every day wear but something vintage or unique.

MidnightMeltdown · 13/05/2025 18:09

I wouldn’t bother selling cheap fast fashion items on Vinted. If it’s not worth at least a tenner secondhand, then it’s not worth the time, effort or storage space. Sell high end items, take the rest to the charity shop.

I also prefer eBay. Vinted is full of cheap skates who want something for nothing and keep sending ‘offers’ which can’t turn off.

PeachyPeachTrees · 13/05/2025 18:19

I had a doom pile like that. In the end I bagged it all up (about 10 bin bags) and gave it away to charity and local freecycle. I wish I'd done it years ago.

Oceangrey · 13/05/2025 18:27

I don't want to be insensitive to those who see £20 as a really meaningful amount...
But I can't see the point of selling things for a couple of pounds? You sell 10 items which is quite a bit of work, make £20, is it worth it? Vinted and the postal services make all the money really.

I give most stuff to my local Crisis shop and they send me updates of the total amount of money they have raised - satisfying.

I'd sell on if it's really high end and in great condition, but personally wouldn't bother with anything I'm going to get less then £25 for. Maybe £15 if I had a big load to do at once.

Also, why do people use Vinted rather than eBay, is it better for sellers? As a buyer I prefer eBay because I get alerts for things I want, and often sellers do returns.

Duechristmas · 13/05/2025 18:27

I give it a month then relist stuff I think so really sell and charity shop the rest.

loropianalover · 13/05/2025 18:58

I’m in Ireland and the way they have the sizing set up really annoys me.

It’s like L / 44 / 16 or whatever, I had a few things from Zara that were just ‘L’ so I just clicked ‘L’ option on Vinted and had 3 buyers complaining that the listing stated e.g. size 44 or whatever when it wasn’t. I put in pics of the tags on all the listings but Vinted sided with the buyers and wanted me to pay for postage to send stuff back.

I just put everything in ‘other’ now but my stuff definitely isn’t selling as quick.

You need to put it in the right EU or UK size, so if it's a Zara L maybe a UK 12/14? Nobody searches for clothes under "other" size. They search under their dress size. If they buy something sized L/44/16 and it's more like a 12/14, they will be annoyed

I know that now but just never thought about it at the time! The tag said L so I clicked L, I wish they’d just separate them completely.

ClaudiaWrinklemum · 13/05/2025 19:44

I remember when I had a vinted pile. Before that I had a vinted box and before that a vinted bag. Recently I had a vinted bed, and now I basically have a vinted room. Bits of it are now seeping out of the room. The problem is I keep feeding it by buying more things off vinted.

I don’t know what the answer is.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/05/2025 17:19

Yep. I list mine, if they’ve not sold in a few weeks, they go to charity. In my experience not much sells after the initial flurry of sales after listing.

Same. I will leave most stuff on there for a couple of months if it hasn’t sold, but if it then doesn’t sell I just charity shop / give away. I sell on Vinted to get rid of stuff I’ve finished with, so I don’t then want that stuff lying around indefinitely - defeats the point for me.

FuglyBitch · 13/05/2025 20:14

I gave up and take stuff to charity

IberianBlackout · 13/05/2025 20:21

If I can’t get rid of it after a certain amount of time or if it’s stuff I just know people won’t buy, just give it away or bin it.

Vinted is clogged with stuff no one will buy.

Allthebookszerofucks · 13/05/2025 21:37

I have boxes of baby clothes in the loft labelled 'for ebay' (vinted wasn't even a thing then)

My kids are 12 and 15 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Toooldforthisbollocks · 13/05/2025 22:28

Too many ignorant buyers on vinted are what is putting me off.
Why do people ask to reserve things and then disappear? Ditto make an offer which I accept and then you never hear from them again.

AlhambraQueen · 13/05/2025 22:39

I have a hanging storage organiser for the vinted stuff. And a stationary corner. I keep and reuse packaging as I was buying too many plastic bags from Amazon in the beginning. Anything too big to post, l give away free on Facebook. I list things and will reduce down to a £1 to get it shifted. So far I have made more than a £1700. I then use the balance to buy more stuff which my girl math is free. Anything that is shifted in six months, get put in charity bins.

YorkshireIndie · 13/05/2025 22:43

It is the effort and hassle of the whole process. Finding the item if it has been listed for ages and then getting it to the correct place. It is also the half fear of a bad review 🫠

eBay? Thought that had gone to die. I really struggle with Ebay. Looks like it’s just full of Chinese manufacturers and nobody ever looks at my items. I’m surprised at so many people saying they do better on eBay – but good on you. Maybe I’m wrong

I’ve started leaving things advertised in vinted for a couple of weeks, then if there’s no interest I reduce the price. And if still not selling I take it off and donate to charity. Trying to make a real effort with decluttering, so if it’s not shifting, it gets donated.

thebear1 · 14/05/2025 07:47

I put items on, if they don't shift I reduce price to minimum I'm happy to bother posting for, if not gone in a week they go to charity.

MadamCholetsbonnet · 14/05/2025 08:04

I took the sensible precaution of living less than two minutes stroll from a corner shop that will send and receive all my parcels 😃

There really is no way out of my compulsion.

One thing I would change about Vinted is to have a filter so I could doom scroll through all the “self modelled” items. Some of them are absolute comedy gold.

WHY do people do this?! I don’t want to see you WEARING the item FFS.
