Vinted pile does my head in

😆 don’t get me wrong, I love Vinted.
but our spare room is taken over by the piles of things people might not actually buy

  • the toddler clothing bundles cos they grow so fast there’s constant clothes
  • the cheapo fast fashion stuff I bought and now obviously no one else wants it either
  • The really nice baby clothes I’m either waiting to pass on to my sisters or might keep myself but we’re undecided about another.
☕️ tell me your irrational Vinted pains

Do a Carboot sale or donate it all to charity. Could not be arsed listing it all, posting it and it taking up room

and some people do these elaborate product shots with dainty hangings and hanging plants.

other behaviours that annoy me:

  • people who claim they’re selling premium Korean kids clothes and it’s literally stuff from Ali Express that cost her £1
  • when you list an item for dirt cheap like £1.50 and they offer you 75p
  • What else!!

I’m about 3 weeks in to starting to buy and sell on Vinted and I’m addicted! I’ve lost a lot of weight recently so am buying smaller sizes and selling my too large items. But yes, so much stuff… waiting to be listed, waiting to be posted. Piles of stuff! But I’m just loving it. Find that my better stuff, Boden, White Stuff, Hobbs, has sold almost immediately. Got to be priced to sell I think.

summerseven · 12/05/2025 20:53

For those that don’t know, if you take a bag of clothing (any brand any condition) to H&M they have a recycle scheme and will add £5 to you H&M account, I always do that with my unsold vinted items so I’m at least getting something!

Nutmeg1204 · 12/05/2025 21:18

We used to have this and it was very annoying the constant clutter, piles bags of clothes etc

Now they are stored under our bed, an ottoman type bed, out of sight, piles of different sizes, perfect solution

AlfieandAnnieRose · 12/05/2025 21:31

Someone upthread mentioned the H&M voucher scheme, I just had a look online to read up more about it and it doesn’t seem such a great idea. I’d rather the clothes I donate either be worn or at least recycled.

Odd thing for me when you’re talking about fast fashion. My SHEIN, Romwe and Rosegal items have been my quickest sellers. I started pricing them higher because I’d no idea they’d be in demand and they always sell fast. Possibly it’s because I am selling alternative style clothing and they have lots of cool options that maybe aren’t on sale that long. But yeah, I seriously would encourage people to try selling those rather than taking them straight off to charity because I get better return on SHEIN than eg Next.

Doggymummar · 12/05/2025 21:40

I hear you. I have nearly 400 items listed between eBay and VINTED and around the same still to list. I've lost six of maybe seven stone now, with kids, partners, mums stuff it's everywhere. The washing, ironing photographing takes ages. I'm addicted. We are at the EVRI shop twice most days and I get so excited for the feedback and money in my account.

I can't sell Shein PLT Boohoo etc even as a bundle of five for a quid. I would never buy it. So I don't blame others for not wanting it either. Same with Missguided. Of the cheap brands George sells really well. Followed by Monsoon and Sea salt. damart also sells well. I have tons of Phase Eight, Fat Face. next all unsold. and anything under size 10 is very hard to shift. I guess it's what your buyers get used to.

eyeswide21 · 12/05/2025 21:46

What about those plastic storage boxes that go under the bed? That's what I do

OrangeQualityStreetAreTheBest · 12/05/2025 21:49

I love it. But what I hate is having to hide the kid stuff. In case they spot a toy they haven't touched for years, if at all and suddenly decide its their favourite.

People who offer half the price for something you just listed 10 mins ago also wind me up occasionally, only because you need to respond to keep your badges and their offer is a pisstake.

FoxesSox · 13/05/2025 08:24

This was me! Then I set myself free and donated the lot to charity or fabric recycling and now I avoid fast fashion and have my spare room back ha.

I did give an outfit to charity and it promptly sold on Vinted 😣

This happened to me too. SO annoying.

growinguptobreakingdown · 13/05/2025 08:43

I had a growing 'vinted' pile in my attic for about a year.Took it all to charity last month and feel so much better

hattie43 · 13/05/2025 08:46

I often wonder why people bother selling stuff under a tenner , the hassle of packaging , posting , app updates , who could be bothered .

Itsallaboutme2021 · 13/05/2025 08:51

Feel your pain, our living room is slowly turning into a mini boutique. Mainly my daughter’s grown out shoes and clothes.

I see your point, and it is a bit annoying to package something up and walk to the shop for £1.50.
But it adds up. Over the last year I have made enough to pay for half a holiday, which we wouldn't have been able to take otherwise.
The house is lighter and I'm making some money. Granted, a PT job would probably pay better, but I can sell stuff on Vinted around my FT job and the kids.

Usually people bundle things up, occasionally I have to post something on its own for £1, but more often than not people don't want to pay £3.50 postage/fees for 1 £1 item.
The majority of stuff I list is £1/2 and the pile of stuff building up does annoy me and I often think I'll just donate it but I've made enough to cover half of our summer holiday this year so those £1s do add up

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 13/05/2025 09:30

I just go with selling as quickly as possible. Clothes go on for £1 to get them out of my house! I still have bags of stuff and a wardrobe in the garage of all the things on my Vinted! 🤦‍♀️ Plus all the packaging I keep to post things in. This is not helping me clear space but I do get a buzz when I sell stuff.

CannotWaitForSummervibes · 13/05/2025 10:38

In my experience everything sells on Vinted if you make it cheap enough. I know it can be painful to sell something for 1 or 2 pounds, but if it’s lying around forever it’s not making any money and hoarding your space. Make it attractive for others to buy (so low price) and make it worth your while (so offer bundles for a set price). When I notice stuff is not selling but has interest I spend a day making bundles of say 4-5 items for 5 pounds. I’ll often end up selling a number of bundles within days, making it worthwhile to do a trip to the drop off point, gaining a bit of money and getting rid of a lot of stuff at once.
you need to decide if you want to hoard stuff or ditch it. If it’s been on Vinted unsold for a year it’s obviously too expensive.
My tactic is to put stuff on Vinted as individual items for the price I’d like to get for them. Some sell, some don’t. Stuff that doesn’t sell I’ll put in cheap bundles, just to get rid of it.

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 13/05/2025 10:43

Yes!! I also have an issue with what brands retain value. I've a beautiful dress from a really great and high end clothing company, lined, well designed, lovely fabric, going for 20% of what it cost me (worn once) and nobody is interested. My scamp and dude dresses which (I know everyone loves but my experience) shrink in the wash, fit weirdly, and are unlined so show your pants - people snapping up at about 75% what they cost brand new. Why!

MayWelland · 13/05/2025 10:44

My current challenge is ironing - I want my items to sell so I iron them before I photograph them so they look nice

But I often CBA so I have three piles

  • Not yet ironed
  • Not yet uploaded
  • Not yet sold

TBH like others, if it’s been on for more than two weeks, I take it to the charity shop

2in2022twoyearson · 13/05/2025 10:45

If I was organised/had time I'd have rotation system. Box 1 items to list on vinted, box 2, listed items. Leave a couple of weeks then take box 1 to a charity shop, and list items in box 2 moving them over to box 1 to make room for newly outgrown/ not wanted clothing.

In reality I have a cupboard stuffed with bags of outgrown/unwanted clothes, only a couple listed and I don't know where they are.

inkognitha · 13/05/2025 10:55

Vinted is a great business for Vinted itself, and a good bargain for clients, but it's resellers who bear the cost of it all.

If you really add up the time it takes, storage, shipping, etc. and the ££ made, most sellers never make NMW/hour spent. All that work profits others, commissions for Vinted, lots to scroll for clients. That's the model.

BangFlash · 13/05/2025 11:04

This is me! My house was so much tidier and life so much simpler before eBay and Vinted came along.

way back I sold because I needed the money. Now I sell because I know so many charities are inundated and just send it for rags. I care about waste and want good stuff to get reused.

however there is a roadside collection coming tomorrow and I’ve decided everything that’s not new with tags needs to go.

BridgetRandomfuck · 13/05/2025 11:09

Yep, my Vinted pile took over my office, and it was really stressful trying to find stuff. I recently bought a cheap clothes rack from Amazon, and it's made such a difference! Everything is neatly hung, saves space and also stops the clothes getting crumpled in piles. Plus it's all in one place so I know where it is!
