I tend not to as I think, like tomatoes, the flavour is better if they haven't been in the fridge....

What do you think?

I do. But the one I had for lunch was a bit hard. I’m finding that M&S do the best ones although not cheap

Fruit bowl.

HauntedBungalow · 12/05/2025 15:42

I vary in my approach to avocados.

Sometimes I keep them in the fridge, where they become rotten and stay unripe at the same time.

Other times I keep them in a bowl on the side, where they remain unripe for days until all of a sudden, while I'm momentarily distracted by hanging out washing, or making a cup of tea, they turn rotten.

Yes I keep mine in the fridge 🙂

Delatron · 12/05/2025 15:52

Fruit bowl but I have to keep a close eye on them to seize that precise 15 minutes where they are ripe.

If I need to pause the ripening I’d keep them in the fridge and get them out a day or so before I needed them. It’s very hard though. I shudder to think how many avocados I’ve thrown away.

In the fridge. When I want to ripen them they go in the fruit bowl with a banana in a brown paper bag until they're ripe.

pizzaHeart · 12/05/2025 15:57

In a fruit bowl.
But they never last more than 3 days in this house.

TheChosenTwo · 12/05/2025 15:59

Fruit bowl, they’re best at room temperature just like tomatoes.

murasaki · 12/05/2025 16:00

Fruit bowl. But if i only eat half, the other half gets clingfilmed and put in the fridge, with the stone in.

I agree it's blink and you miss it re perfect ripeness though. Sneaky bastards.

Breadcat24 · 12/05/2025 16:02

I tried frozen avocado- it was not bad! Saved the hit and miss its it ripe is it rotten thing and half the time you mush it up anyway

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 12/05/2025 16:03

I buy 2 or 3 at a time. I either use the ripest one on the day I buy it, or I put it in the fridge. If the others are harder, I'll put them in the fruit bowl to ripen a bit more.

Augustus40 · 12/05/2025 16:05

I always keep them out so they ripen faster.

Ddakji · 12/05/2025 16:05

Not to begin with, but I only eat half at a time so the other half goes in the fridge covered in clingfilm to be eaten the next day.

In the last couple of weeks all the avocados I’ve eaten have been really tasteless. Bit odd, they aren’t usually!

murasaki · 12/05/2025 16:06

I do wish supermarkets would stop lying with their 'ready to eat' labels.

Maybe one in 20 is. Unless you like eating rocks.

BigDahliaFan · 13/05/2025 06:06

Yep I bought 4 "ripen at home' in M&s as no ripe ones. I'm a suckered.....they won't.
