I just posted an anonymous letter to a neighbour. Oh God. Panicking.

I live in a Victorian terrace with a back lane. There's a man who lives about 20 doors down from me who let's his dog shit in the back lane.

It's hard to confront him because he lets his dog out into the back lane, then he buggers off back into his house. So its not like he's stood there while the dog's shitting so you can say "Oi, mate, your dog just shit, pick it up".

Anyway, I'm sick of it.

So today I posted (like into the post box, not through his door) an anonymous letter which says the following:

"Dear [Man]

A group of neighours from [My Street] and [Next Street] have seen [Dog's Name] fouling in the back lane on multiple occasions.

It's selfish, it's a public health hazard, and we're sick of it.

We have gathered photo and video evidence that its [Dog's Name] doing this. If you don't start picking up after [Dog's Name], we will be sending the evidence to the dog warden team and environmental health at the Council.

Yours,
Neighbours"

I was feeling all brave and bold about it. But now I'm panicking that I actually went through with it. 😂

I'll be amazed if he gets it, given the appalling state of the postal service.

TheHerboriste · 11/05/2025 20:40

I’m about to do the same to the arsehole who uses his petrol-powered leaf machine three or four times a day, for no discernible reason. He was out there with it at 7am on Christmas and Easter morning, even.

Kind of speaking on behalf of neighbours- lots of us regularly grumble at each other about the dog shit in the back lane.
No one else knows I actually sent the letter though. I mean, we didn't agree to do that - I just decided to 😀

I'd say a new turd turns up a couple of times a week.

Edited

Thanks for clarifying.

In that case, YABVU and I would not be remotely impressed if I were one of your neighbours and this gets back to them. Have the gumption to write your own anonymous letters without pretending to be the chief wizard of the local unofficial neighbourhood watch scheme.

elliesmummy19 · 11/05/2025 20:43

Good for you, OP!

esem · 11/05/2025 20:43

good for you - well done....
its about time someone berated these lazy disgusting people

SnuffleTruffleHound · 11/05/2025 20:46

LetterPostie · 11/05/2025 20:38

Of course I put a stamp on it 😂

Why! He'd have had to pay to receive the letter, even better justice

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 11/05/2025 20:54

Good on you. I’d have been hard pushed not to post the shit through the letterbox with it.

Theseawee · 11/05/2025 20:58

Don’t blame you, pet owners should be more responsible. My neighbours seem to think im an arse for not liking the fact that their cats shit everywhere in my garden, sick of it

Tulipvase · 11/05/2025 21:06

Parcelit · 11/05/2025 18:25

This isn’t anonymous op, he will likely guess surely

From a choice of 20 doors down?

Greenglades · 11/05/2025 21:08

Good on you. Panic not.

Butchyrestingface · 11/05/2025 21:10

Tulipvase · 11/05/2025 21:06

From a choice of 20 doors down?

OP took it up herself to send this letter on behalf of numerous neighbours, as a kind of self-appointed spokesperson, without having discussed doing so with them in advance or seeking their permission.

If he's your typical mad bastard, he will blame whatever poor sod he dislikes the most on the street. Possibly the ones who live next door to him as they're the easiest reach. Pounds to pennies that won't be OP.

Nenas · 11/05/2025 21:11

It's a very restrained letter IMO. He sounds like a selfish cunt who deserved far worse - dog shit flung over the back of his garden fence, dog shit on his front door step for example.

LetterPostie · 11/05/2025 21:13

Sidebeforeself · 11/05/2025 20:39

Can I ask why you didnt talk to the owner? Were you scared of an aggressive response? I just think ,as difficult as it is ,thats the necessary first step

He's a weird guy. I don't know if he'd be aggressive, he's just really odd. For example, he goes hunting with a shotgun to catch squirrels which he then cooks and eats 🤔 We don't live rurally - we're in a suburb of a medium-sized city
So I don't fancy taking my chances.

Plus, I've never caught his dog in the act when the guys been around to actually confront. He let's the dog out into the back lane and then he goes back into his house and leaves the dog to it. When I've seen the dog shitting, the guys no where to be seen to actually confront. And I wouldn't feel confident going to his door to knock and say "Your dog just shit in the back lane" (see above).

Oh well done.

We had this issue, once the council got involved it stopped immediately.

People are gross. Letting your dog shit immediately outside your own home… just bizarre.

LetterPostie · 11/05/2025 21:15

Tulipvase · 11/05/2025 21:06

From a choice of 20 doors down?

It's actually a lot more than that. We're two parallel streets of terrace houses with the back lane between them. There are about 90 house that directly back on to the back lane. I'm on the same side as this guy, about 20 houses down from him

We have a neighbour (not sure which) whose washing machine is outside (laundry shed of some sort maybe).

I know this as when the cycle finished it beeps until someone empties it.

Completely infuriating.

DreamTheMoors · 11/05/2025 21:18

There was a very funny joke about man and a gorilla and a dog and all I can remember is the punchline: “shoot the dog!!”
If this dude is so uncaring that he’s allowing his dog outside unmonitored, he doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the dog either, supposedly his beloved pet.
If there’s a animal welfare agency near you, you should definitely contact them as well.
I’d never let my dog by outside herself. Ever.
Edited for spelling

Olivio73 · 11/05/2025 21:28

Flipping hell!!!

AInightingale · 11/05/2025 21:30

Oh he sounds bloody awful. Kills squirrels for recreation, how lovely.

Is it the type of dog those men use for hunting? I know that's illegal but it goes on anyway.

You have my sympathy, I live next door to a vile twat like him, three horrible lurcher type things in cages, I dread them ever getting loose when my cats are out.

Duckponddiana · 11/05/2025 21:34

Well done OP !

I did something similar when I lived opposite a nudist and he was wandering around his house naked.

ChampagneLassie · 11/05/2025 21:35

noblegiraffe · 11/05/2025 17:44

This seemed a bit more risky when I thought you'd posted his dog shit into the letter box.

This would have made this far more intresting

ChampagneLassie · 11/05/2025 21:39

WTAF he hunts and eats squirrels!!! How do you know this? This sounds a bit far fetched

WhatdoesitmeanKeith · 11/05/2025 21:40

2dogsandabudgie · 11/05/2025 19:02

So have you actually put it in a post box so it's delivered by the postman? Did you put a stamp on it?

What an odd question!

Just don’t keep sending letters as it could be construed as harrassment.

Well done for doing it though!

Duckponddiana · 11/05/2025 21:42

Do keep us posted OP, this is a really funny thread !
