I’m a 58 year old single mum to a teen, not looking for a new job, rarely on LinkedIn.
What could they want with me?

Maybe you share a name with someone they know?

Dearg · 11/05/2025 14:04

Sorry, meant to add - do you work in an area they may need - for an engineering firm or manufacturing company?

Maybe your employer is looking to contract with them and they are doing some research.

Phase2 · 11/05/2025 14:04

You appeared in searches, or they actively searched you, or they viewed your profile?

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 11/05/2025 14:06

Could it be anything to do with your child?

ARainyNightInSoho · 11/05/2025 14:07

I have had this, but a different government department. It was when DD was applying for a job there. I think it was part of security screening.

StarCourt · 11/05/2025 14:08

@JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff no very doubtful she’s 16 and autistic

@Dearg yes that’s a possibility, i have fairly unusual surname though. Re my employer yes I suppose it could be, but my employer is huge and i a mere tiny cog

@Phase2not sure to be honest but have just looked again land it says my searchers were Project Manager and Flight Crew

Tomatotater · 11/05/2025 14:21

They want to recruit you as a spy?

Tryingtokeepgoing · 11/05/2025 14:31

Has someone put you down as a personal reference perhaps?

StarCourt · 11/05/2025 14:40

ooh i’d be a great secret squirrel. I’m already the keeper of people’s secrets

@Tryingtokeepgoing can’t imagine so and surely they’d have asked me first

Except that you've probably failed the test by blurting out in a public forum that they're interested in recruiting you... 😉

So it's not the army or the home office actually searching, it's two people who happen to work at those places.

Just like if I worked at Google and looked at your profile it wouldn't be on behalf of Google, it would just be me being nosey or you popping up on my feed because of something you've liked or a suggested connection based on shared interests.

titchy · 11/05/2025 15:29

Just people being nosy.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 11/05/2025 15:38

So I'd imagine someone you know is going through Developed Vetting, or it's random.

Mumofteenandtween · 11/05/2025 15:38

Is it not obvious? You are about to get your “tap on the shoulder” and be recruited as a spy!

Now - you have some very important decisions to make. Most important….. do you want to shag Tom Quinn, Adam Carter or Lucas North?

Although what could be a better cover than an ' aw shucks, lil ole me?' post on Mumsnet in case of some Russian/Chinese operatives trawling the Internet eh Agent @StarCourt? Interesting username. Bit like Starfleet, or Starlink...hmmm

StarCourt · 11/05/2025 17:11

Listen very carefully, I will say zis only once…
