Learner car insurance

I’m trying to get some insurance so DS who is 17 at end of month can drive my car (under DH’s supervision). To add him to my existing policy would be approx £250 /month (2017 1.6 Sportage) which is too expensive so I looked at his own learner policy with Marmalade and Veygo; both of which came back online as unable to insure. Not sure whether computer is saying no because he isn’t 17 yet but surely parents sort insurance so kids can drive on their 17th birthday?
Any advice on how I can get him some cover gratefully received

Try Collingwood - I've just insured my son as a learner driver. Should register that start date of the policy is after 17th birthday....

Give the insurers a call and they should be able to sort it 🙂

We used RAC bolt on learner cover for our daughter , it was very something like £86 for 3 months , that was in 2023

I don’t know that most people do do it before they are seventeen so it could be that and I agree you should call them. Mine had a few lessons first before we took them in our car.

My second dd cost about £30 for the year to add to my policy with admiral but it was a small car (Zoe). Then when she passed it was over a thousand pounds and we ended up buying her a car with a small engine. (Fiat 500).
