What can be wrong with my swollen ankle?

It swells just above the ankle bone, mainly on the shin but has started to go more around the leg. It gets achy and itchy and worse after exercise, I am slim and healthy. MRI and ultra sound have not found nothing, ruled out compartment syndrome, this is as far as I got with NHS in 18 months. Next discussion will be about veins. Seems odd to be vein problem as it is in such specific area and on one leg only. Anyone has anything similar?

Have you had a blood test? My friend recently had a swollen ankle and part of her foot, a blood test showed diabetes.

No, but I will ask. I am low risk for it and no other symptoms. Thank you.

A few years ago my left ankle swelled up mysteriously. I had private insurance at the time and went to a orthopaedic guy in Harley St. He thought it was DVT but I had the scans and it wasn’t. Another doctor thought I might have a tumour in my pelvis so I had a scan for that and it wasn’t. A third doctor (a vascular surgeon) then did different scans of all the veins in my leg and he concluded I had May Thurner syndrome (google it!) and told me to wear ultra thick compression tights which were hot and horrible.

To this day I still don’t really know what it is. I still get it - my left leg swells up from my foot to my knee - but only in summer (from April/May time onwards). It gets better at night…
