I didn't even really like it but it's driving me mad.

Here's what I've got:

Probably early 90s
Male vocalist
One hit wonder
Sort of indie but a bit cheesy
When I try to remember it, I keep hearing the Seahorses - Blinded by the Sun and James - Sit Down, in my head (that's how I am dating it).
Something about it makes me think singer might have been French. He might not have been but maybe his name sounded a bit French
I think the sleeve of the record/cd would have been navy blue
I think he had sort of curtains/dark bob haircut
The words - close/closer/touch/stand/sit are on my peripheral thinking but may be way off.

Kavanah?

Nomoreidea · 09/05/2025 12:29

Can you hum it into that humming thing on google?

sesquipedalian · 09/05/2025 12:30

@ JojoM1981 -
You are the first responder. Why did you feel the need to copy out the whole original post? I know I’m not alone in finding it intensely annoying.

Sorry, OP, I can’t help you about the song!

There's an actual song called Blinded By The Sun by the Seahorses. Is that it?

SlightlyJaded · 09/05/2025 12:36

@SparklyGlitterballs No. I know that song and the James one - that's where my head goes when I try to think of this song. It's what makes me think early 90s....

Not Kavanagh

Enrique Inglesias, hero? That’s so random I don’t know how I came to that guess hahaha

SlightlyJaded · 09/05/2025 12:37

@Nomoreidea No. I've got nothing to hum. I just can't remember it at all. Only the 'idea of it'

Just had to look this up and it's a 70's record but blinded by the light by manfred Mann? I had it in my head it was later than the 70's but apparently not (god knows how I know it as I was a baby!)

SlightlyJaded · 09/05/2025 12:41

@CatsWhiskerz The Seahorses released Blinded by the Sun in 1997. That's the one that I am referring to.

It's a red herring really - I don't know why I mentioned it.

The song 'Sit Down' by James was 1990 - so between them, they don't 'date' the mystery song at all!!!!

SlightlyJaded · 09/05/2025 12:48

Oh I nearly had it for a minute..

Then in my head I heard 'You're Gorgeous' by Babybird - 1996. I feel like I'm getting closer....

I asked chatGPT who came back with these -
Jean Leloup, 1990
Etienne Daho, Week-End a Rome
David Holliday, High.
Louis Elliot, Everybody loves you when you're dead.

Probably not much help though, it told me my 5 month old Labrador looked over a year old the other day.

zaxxon · 09/05/2025 12:54

House of love - shine on?

Chameleons - swamp thing?

Neither are one hit wonders but they had curtains... but then, so did every indie musician then ...

SlightlyJaded · 09/05/2025 12:54

None of those....

Maybe he was Scandi? Swedish?

I think the title was one word. And maybe an adjective. I'm also leaning into later 90s.....

Whatadayyyyyyy · 09/05/2025 12:57

Do you know any of the lyrics?

ItGhoul · 09/05/2025 13:01

What genre of music? Indie type guitar-led? Dance? Pop?

Lauren1983 · 09/05/2025 13:05

Andreas Johnson - Glorious?

ShaunaSadeki · 09/05/2025 13:09

I was going to say Paolo Nutini: Last Request, but wrong decade

SlightlyJaded · 09/05/2025 13:13

@Lauren1983 YES YES YES - That wasd it. Fucking Hell, thtat's been driving me mad for MONTHS.

Cheesy attempt at Brit Pop - check
Curtains - check
French - X
Swedish - possibly
One word - check
Adjective - check
One hit wonder - check
1997 - check check check

You absolute beauty.

No idea why I wanted to remember it, it's shit. But oh I feel calm now...

SoScarletItWas · 09/05/2025 13:18

I know you think it’s shit @SlightlyJaded but I bloody love this song in all its cheesiness and I thank @Lauren1983 for the reminder!

It always made me imagine the singer as one of Those Lads who would be into boho girls, pretend they were all spiritual and do yoga possibly sit round a campfire with a guitar just to shag us. Them. I mean them.

Lauren1983 · 09/05/2025 13:24

You are welcome @SlightlyJaded ! The clue cheesy but indie made me think of it. I quite like the song but that description is spot on.

SlightlyJaded · 09/05/2025 14:04

it was the equivalent of Euro-pop but for Indie music. Euro-Indie …😀

I've just been listening to it and like it more than i remember.

@SoScarletItWas

Yes! Yoga bottoms and an Ohm tattoo but really just another fuckboy…. yum
