Can't give 6 year old her big present on her birthday itself

I'm buying my 6 year old her first bicycle for her birthday, unfortunately the shop screwed up the order, I've had to send the first one back and it'll now arrive a couple of days after the actual day. She has 5 or 6 smaller things to open on the day so not nothing, but not masses either.

Should I just tell her on the day that it's on its way, show pictures etc? I was considering wrapping the helmet I've already got as a sort of teaser, is that weird? Or even tell her before her birthday what is happening so she knows in advance? She's a pretty laid back personality generally but I don't want her to feel too disappointed on her birthday!

Tell her in advance then, on her actual b.day, remind her it’s on its way and say how exciting it will be to go and collect /it will be waiting after school on x day or whatever. I think a teaser might be a bit cruel tbh.

Yeah, I’d just tell her, in a very upbeat way, and let her know when you’ll be getting it. Like “DD, you’re getting a bike for your birthday! But the shop got it mixed up with someone else’s bike, so now they’ve had to ride it over to the other house and then ride your bike all the way back, and it won’t be here until Wednesday! But you’ve got some other things to open on your birthday, and then you’ll still have the bike to look forward to!”

Agree with above xx

Will you go to pick it up from the shop? If so, that can be a huge day in itself

I agree with the above as well, make a nice trip out of it. If she hasn’t already got a helmet, bell, hooter etc maybe she could pick those out while there or get her them for when she gets her bike?

Of course! I wouldn’t even show the photos- just say you have another surprise for the weekend
This way she gets two treats!

This. She's old enough that she will love the excitement of waiting.

And 6 presents anyway is plenty-all my dc normally had on the day (one from parents, one from each sibling and one from each set of grandparents)
