Memory glitches - help!

I’m mid-40s and just forgot my own mobile number of 25 years whilst on the phone to the vet about the cat’s steroid prescription. Help! Is this brain tumour, early onset dementia, normal, not normal, should I go to the GP…? It’s upset me a bit, I normally have a good memory and have never forgotten my own phone number before! 😮

It’s age. Maybe also peri menopause.

Applewatch · 06/05/2025 13:13

peri menopause most probably..

I forgot my bank PIN number last week. I’ve had the same pin for at least twenty years! I literally couldn’t remember it for hours. I’m always having menopausal brain farts. I’m 49 and post-menopause.

I'm early 40s and I often forget things. My favourite is asking people a question, immediately forgetting what I asked them, and then having to scan their answers for clues so I can work out what I asked!

“Menopausal brain farts” is great 😂 I’m definitely in peri and have Evorel patches for sleep problems and hot flushes, but haven’t had any memory symptoms as yet…the menopause ride surely is quite the rollercoaster!

What is your sleep like at the moment? If my deep sleep is lacking I can never remember anything the next day.

THEMUTINEER · 06/05/2025 13:30

I forget the words for things when my B12 is low, called a magpie a penguin once (knew it was a black and white bird) 😂

I had one day when I got to the hole in the wall and couldn't remember the pin number at all. It was like a black hole in my mind where it should have been.
Always had the same number, never forgot it before or since.

Same week dh was really late home from work. I asked him what had happened and he said that he suddenly realised he was cycling the wrong way and couldn't remember which way to get home.
He's normally very good with directions. Again never done it before or after

We decided we must have had some sort of virus that caused short term memory loss.
