Having another hip replacement tomorrow - anxious much!

Just that really - had a hip replacement last November and I'm having the other one done Wednesday. I'm SO scared. I had a pretty good recovery from the last one and I keep thinking I can't be that lucky again.

My DS has his first GCSE Friday so the timing is just grim but I've waited 20 months so I had to go for it. What scares me the most is if they try to get me to come home the same day or next and I'm not ready - too much responsibility for my DS. I went private last time and had the luxury of three nights.

Aargh i just want to be six months down the line and through all this SadSadSad

Goodluck! I have spoken to a lot of people who said they had a great recovery (myself included) so think the odds are in your favour.

I was in hospital four ngkhts (private too) and definitely wouldn’t have been well enough to come
home same or next day, that’s crazy!

Hello! I had my second hip replacement the year before last (first one done at age 22, latest one at age 36) and I found recovery from second a little easier tbh! I think the power of knowing what to expect plays a big part in recovery. I did go private for both and I also was in for 3 nights. Best of luck, it’s grim having to go through it but hopefully you’ll be pain free in just a few short weeks ❤️

Hello I'm waiting for a date for my hip replacment and also have a DS about to start GCSEs. Best of luck with the op, I hope it goes well and I'm very interested to hear how you get on and recover if you feel like updating us. 😀

All the best. My second was easier than my first. I think just knowing what to expect, knowing to avoid drugs that make me sick, knowing to rest and to do my exercises religiously!

I send you wishes for a speedy recovery. Once it is done you will know you have done the best thing for yourself.

windysocks · 06/05/2025 20:05

Hope all goes well can I ask how old you are and what symptoms you had to need a hip replacement?

chipshopElvis · 07/05/2025 17:53

Hope it's gone well today OP?

Thank you all for your comments and for asking!

All good - went down at 9ish for the epidural and was back in recovery by 11.10. The spinal is still present in my operated leg so the pain is fine at the moment but I know that will wear off! It was affecting my bladder so I've had to have a catheter. Definitely staying in tonight!! I've just demolished a tuna sandwich and a cuppa! Bliss!!

I've had hip problems for a few years where it would just "go" from underneath me and pain in my groin. The left one has been bad for years and I've been on the waiting list for 20 months. The right one went very quickly but I had that done privately because it was covered with my fairly new insurance. The right one has been fabulous so I can only hope and pray this one is the same!

Glad to hear you’re doing well.
Best wishes and hope you'll be able to enjoy lots of lovely long walks in the near future!
