What would be your /Dream Meal/ Last Meal on Earth…

I have just started listening to the ‘Off Menu’ podcast hosted by Ed Gamble and James Acaster. The slebs being interviewed describe their ideal three course meal with a side dish, still sparkling water and beverage of choice. They give background to why the dishes are their fave / where ate them, and sometimes where they would like to eat it.
There are some hilarious combinations -including from top chefs -think beans and salad cream on toast for a starter and wildfire pizza for main, with a bowl of cornflakes on the side and a Berni Inn knickerbocker glory for pud !!
Some of the meals don’t flow in the way a restaurant menu would making it even more quirky.
It’s great and got me thinking what mine would be, plus when, where and with whom I’d share the meal.

Mine would be :

Starter: Gottta be a 70s prawn cocktail in a glass with vivid pink seafood sauce and iceberg lettuce.

Main: Roast Lamb with mint sauce and redcurrant with creamy potato gratin and buttered carrots and peas and sounded red cabbage - loads lamb gravey

Side - A large four cheese, cauliflower cheese

Pud: Vietnamese Mango and coconut rice pudding - from the Morning Glory restaurant in Hoi Ann- or warm Bakewell tart - from Bakewell - with clotted cream

Water: Sparkling with ice.

Beverage: A good red wine - Primitivo maybe

Location: A Scandinavian log cabin with a snow topped mountain frozen lake backdrop.

Lunch or dinner: Deffo dinner. I will
just have been in the wood fired sauna and a cold plunge int the lake. Now in front of log fire ready to feast.

With whom: DH.

What about you guys??

I think I heard Angela Harnet talking about that tortellini dish on another podcast - sounds beautiful!

I’m a lamb fan, but your dad’s roast sounds like the guv’nor.

Crikey - can’t think of anything worse than a n artificially flavoured banoffee pie so I’m with you there sister! and loving the snickers chaser( I think I’d go mars bar but in same ball park)

On the crisps front can’t agree lol - that particular flavour while delectable makes my mouth tingle in an odd way!

Oh honestly, Tortellini in Brodo is WONDERFUL, so simple but so flavourful, buying good quality tortellini is worth it...you can also make it but I can never be bothered 😁

My mates lamb dish is INSANE, tangy, lemony, rich...I also adore Kleftiko so I may need a 3 part main tbh....Dads beef roast is fucking outstanding tbh!

I'll be honest, I detest Mars bars...but that leaves more for you!

Ill also go a quaver if that's any better

God it’s a tough one with the lamb /beef conundrum - I feel Your pain!

I will concede on the mars bar as actually snickers are lush and now I want one with a cup of cold milk ( to cut the through the clag)

Who doesn’t love to savour the flavour of a quaver, however I may waiver …

And say, I raise you a cheesey whotsit?
Alternatively, as a run for the money including our fish oil Omega 3 - a Scampi Lemon fry or nik nak ?

Oh man, love a Wotsit! and scampi NikNaks are CRIMINALLY underrated!

I moved to Denmark 5y ago and their crisp selection is atrocious...I bring back multiple bags of various types when I visit the UK!

I am a recent lover of cold milk so I think a glass of that with a snickers sounds delish!

I am a little concerned by your husbands choice of room tmp water for his drink btw!

2024riot · 05/05/2025 22:21

@Limprichteabiscuit oh I am struggling to decide it all sounds so delicious ! I can decide on the cheese course , a particularly strong cheddar called not for the faint hearted, a truffle infused number and some Spanish blue cheese I keep reading about, a nice Etom mess for dessert
now Need the main and the starter
I would also have a good well made margarita

The cheaper the crisp for me the more it rocks my world!
An unbranded onion ring or a cheesy ball I‘m all in balls in!

What’s the food like in Denmark ? I wonder what a Dane might typically chose as a last meal….?!

And is a glass of cold milk there generally UHT like a lot of Europe? Im used to fresh cows milk now but I lived in Spain for years and loved the milk as even the skimmed UHT stuff was creamier!

I get a carton every now and again and drink it cold with dark chocolate digestive biscuits while contemplating my life choices and asking myself why oh why I am so utterly obsessed with food!!!

So many options, but ultimately I'm always most at home with simple homely grub, so:

Starter: never really do starters

Main: toad in the hole made not with decent butcher made soss each with a liberal smear of English mustard along the length before being added.

Side: just steamed carrots, peas and french beans and fried squash.

Water: nothing, never have water with food

Drink: for after the meal (I never really drink with food, it comes later), any malty real ale.

CherryVanillaPie · 05/05/2025 23:11

I'll have poppadoms and pickles, prawn puri and veg biriyani.
Toblerone cheesecake dessert
Pineapple juice

Oh yes to the onion rings!!

Food in Denmark is…well let’s put it this way, seasoning is very underused here!

it would probably involve Smørrebrød (open sandwich), pickled herring, pork, potatoes (possibly in a caramel sauce like at Christmas), candy (they are obsessed with candy 😂) and alcohol.

No we have proper milk, UHT is very popular, I don’t think Danes use that much milk generally, but buying proper milk is no problem at all thankfully

Caramel sauce ….sounds interesting lol??

Not sure about the lack of seasoning I do like my food at a minimum adequately salted or too bland.

The food sounds quite simple there. I’d forgotten about the open sandwiches - I could deffo do a bit of pickled fish one on the dark brown bread -Rye is it? But not as a last meal lol xx

I give to you, Jule Kartoffeler

Personally they are not my vibe! But I also don’t particularly enjoy rye bread so I’m probably not allowed an opinion here 😂

Definitely the loose ones rolling round in the box. So much better than in a packet for some reason.

Shetlands · 06/05/2025 09:56

Starter: Warm avocado & stilton salad
Main: Fried fancy mushrooms & walnuts with triple fried chips
Pud: Honeycomb icecream
Beverage: Chilled Chablis
Location: Amalfi coast
Lunch or dinner: Lunch, following a swim & spa session
With whom: my best friends

Rubyupbeat · 06/05/2025 10:04

Buttery mashed potato, just that really.

BlackKnightinYellowWellies · 06/05/2025 10:58

So many of these are my worst nightmare foods! Everyone is different eh?

Perfect fried egg is lightly cooked, no crispy bits, runny yolk, bit of salt sprinkled on as it cooks.
