Can’t get over a lost necklace

I know I know I know it’s a third world problem,

around a month ago I lost a necklace which has huge sentimental value, absolutely my own fault - I never ever take it off except to occasionally take tan. I asked DD to do it back up straight afterwards and stupidly didn’t check she had done it correctly.

I could only have lost it that day, I play/fiddle with it all the time and only noticed around 6am the next day. I’d been in my house, in my car, the shop and the gym (where I realised it was lost).

I still feel so sad and keep obsessively looking in places I know I’ve checked a million times

my working theory being if she didn’t do it up properly it probably fell off quite soon after and so should be in the house somewhere.

Ive emptied the hoover, searched every nook and cranny. Trying not to show DS how upset I am

have you ever found anything after giving up all hope?!

Check the rubber of your washing machine

Thedeuce · 04/05/2025 18:52

Oh that is a good shout and NOT somewhere I’ve checked!

Ask at the gym and the shop.

Also post on your local FB group in-case you lost it outside of the house.

There’s a poster on here who is good at “seeing” where lost items are. I’m sure someone will know who. I’m sceptical about this kind of thing but if it’s a loved item I’m sure you will try anything.

Bless you OP, I assume you mean first world problem 😂 a third world problem would be something akin to poverty, poor healthcare and economic instability.

Have you checked down the side of your bed, mattress, in the pillowcase? In case it came off that evening in bed.

I lost a mix cassette in 1989 - looked everywhere for it.

In 2004, my dad presented me with it having 'found it in his car'. I was pleased but puzzled as this was two cars on from the car he'd had when I lost it. On further enquiry I learned that whenever he replaced his car, he simply swept up all the crap inside into a bin bag and emptied the bin bag into the new car!

I lost a necklace 20 years ago and I'm still not over it! Dumbass me left it behind when I moved house and I never got it back it was my 21st birthday present

My Nan had a gold locket with a picture of both herself and my grandad in it. She never took it off. Grandad had died and my dad had arranged for her to go and stay for 2 months with my uncle in Australia. One day whilst there She suddenly realised she wasn’t wearing the locket and was so upset . The whole family turned the house upside down but she couldn’t remember when she’d last had it and they’d been out for the day. So it could have been anywhere. They had no luck and Nan left Australia without it.
2 years later my uncle was having a new drive built and he had a mini excavator churning up the old drive. Suddenly something shiny caught his eye. It was my nans locket still on the chain albeit a broken chain but the pictures were still intact. He immediately phoned my nan to tell her the good news. She cried, obviously, especially as the day my uncle found it , was my nans and grandads wedding anniversary. He posted it to her the following day. She got a new chain and wore it every day again. I have it now and treasure it .

I get it. I lost a necklace decades ago and it still bothers me. I've even searched many times to find one the same but never have. It wasn't expensive but great sentimental value😥

I hope you find it.

Thedeuce · 04/05/2025 19:22

Not in the washing machine but I did find one lighter, 1 small duck, and 1 earring in the tumble drier trap

Gym I’ve messaged and email multiple times they don’t reply 😡 I go at stupid o clock in the morning when it isn’t staffed so nobody around to ask but I might drive down their tomorrow since I’m not working and hopefully they have someone on

Could it be inside the top you were wearing on the day you lost it?

HeySeamus · 04/05/2025 19:33

I found my missing Tiffany pendant under my bed approximately 2 years after losing it but the chain wasn’t with it unfortunately.
Don’t lose hope because it might turn up 🤞

MCCN · 04/05/2025 19:34

Have you reported it to the police Lost Property department? Just in case it's been handed in. Also double check the car with a torch, looking in all the nooks at the side of the seats and underneath the carpet mats.

I've found several things which were missing for long periods, so fingers crossed for you.

ohyesido · 04/05/2025 19:36

Probably stuck inside the clothes you were wearing if it wasn’t done up properly?

ohyesido · 04/05/2025 19:38

Although I did a little reading to ask where it is and the answer I got was “large wagon” if that
means anything

spiderlight · 04/05/2025 19:39

Sympathy - I absolutely hate losing things! There's a page called Lostbox on Facebook - it might be worth joining and posting on there with the name of the gym etc. just in case someone has picked it up.

BatChops1 · 04/05/2025 19:57

Oh gosh I think you’ve mean a first world problem!

id check all my clothes and the washing basket thoroughly

violetqueen6 · 05/05/2025 07:56

Sending sympathy OP.
I'm thinking in the car .
I expect you've checked in the area that you were standing in when DS fastened it ?

Chemenger · 05/05/2025 08:01

The filter of the washing machine? The one you have to drain the machine to get at. I’ve found all sorts in there.
