What do you think about Lorraine Kelly posting on Instagram from her hospital bed prior to surgery?

Interested to hear people's thoughts! I suspect opinions may vary and our ages could have something to do with it. But ... don't know.

What do you say?

Be careful what you post online. If people know roughly where you live, they can work out which hospital you are in and even potentially which ward you are on (if NHS). Let’s hope she doesn’t have a stalker.

I think it's interesting how quickly this has become "the norm" to some people, and to some it isn't seen as odd at all Confused.

Instagram has only been around for about 10 years? Before that it wouldn't be possible to know that a public figure was in hospital having an operation unless they gave a written statement to be read out on the show, or something like that.

To the pp who said "we know that the Royals have had treatment for cancer" - indeed, but they did not share it in a video from their hospital bed!

I think Davina and Eamon Holmes are just as weird in this regard too, fwiw.

If I needed to let anyone know about a hospital stay I could do it by WhatsApp and/or ask my husband to help me do it. No way would I put a picture up on the internet for the whole world to see. I think being famous has nothing to do with it. Famous people deserve health privacy, if they want it, although very very oddly it seems that some famous people don't want it!

I wouldn’t do it, but this is the world we live in. I choose not to be troubled by it because how is that going to help?

AutumnScream · 05/05/2025 15:53

Why shouldn't she comment? What else has she got to do all day sat around bored in a hospital bed?

NancyJoan · 05/05/2025 16:06

What harm is it doing, OP? You enjoy engaging with people online, and so does she. And there’s sod all else to do when hanging around on a ward.

SplendidUtterly · 05/05/2025 16:13

Could you see her growler?

Gilead · 05/05/2025 16:19

I wish women would learn to support other women, rather than calling them attention seekers.
It’s entirely possible that she posted to encourage other women to take the same route. Maybe she posted to reassure people having the same operation. Maybe she posted to demonstrate solidarity with other women.

MyKingdomForACat · 05/05/2025 16:39

Just keeping relevant I suppose. I can’t believe her dated show is still going. Is it still going?

Wakemeupbe4yougogo · 05/05/2025 17:05

@SirChenjins there are some nude photos of her online, and let's just say it was in the days when women didn't wax..... hence her "growler" was a sketch back in the day on bo selecta. She was less than impressed if I recall.... Grin

i Don’t have any strong feelings either way about Lorraine Kelly - but i posted updates on social media when I was having my treatment for cancer so I could update everyone in as energy minimal way as possible. Perhaps this way she’s controlling the narrative so it can’t get leaked?

Exactly this, it lets people know without having to individually message. Then people who want to show some care can

Lorraine Kelly posed nude??!

Oversharing seems to be a pattern with her...

Maddy70 · 05/05/2025 17:15

If it helps others going through it then great. its a bit look at me though

sandrevolutionary · 05/05/2025 17:31

I'm not in the public eye so I don't need to see off tabloid nonsense by publicly announcing my news first, but I would feel like I was tempting fate by posting before the op. That's the only part that made me slightly uncomfortable.

People nowadays seem to like taking photos of themselves in hospital gowns and hospital beds to commemorate the occasion. Not for me, but can't get excited about it as long as they're not invading anybody else's privacy or peace in the process.

LindorDoubleChoc · 05/05/2025 17:36

I'm not saying it's doing any harm and I am not in the least bit "riled up" about it as pp said. I think it's a curious sign of the times, other people think it's perfectly normal behaviour.

stayathomer · 05/05/2025 17:42

I don’t know that it’s attention seeking, I’d guess there’s times you want to talk about things out loud, she just happens to have a larger audience, maybe she was hoping for sympathy or support (and maybe she’ll get it snd it’ll lift her a bit!)

BlueEyedBogWitch · 05/05/2025 17:43

God, don’t people want a private life any more?

SirChenjins · 05/05/2025 17:45

Apparently not @BlueEyedBogWitch it’s all about the likes now - if it’s not on SM it didn’t happen.

FannyBawz · 05/05/2025 17:49

Och, that’s a wee shame Lorraine hen 🙄

JMSA · 05/05/2025 17:51

She’s so annoying. And I say that as a fellow Scot.

BarneyRonson · 05/05/2025 17:51

It seems weird to me because I truly adore privacy, but there are performative people by the droves who thrive on having an audience.

Freysimo · 05/05/2025 17:55

Openthisdoor · 03/05/2025 20:04

Why has it made the BBC News is what I want to know?

Did the BBC manage to shoehorn in a mention of drag queens, as they're obsessed and Lorraine is a great TWAW supporter?

Ffs. All this ‘women supporting women’ bollocks.

People can find her irritating and comment that they do. This sisterhood crap really gets on my tits.

I have no opinion whatsoever on Lorraine Kelly, btw.

TweetingHurricane · 05/05/2025 18:00

Sometimes it’s nice to get that extra bit of support.
Also she’s normalising that celebs look crap in hospital too, and talking about the procedure etc
I think the positives outweigh the negatives of potential attention seeking

SirChenjins · 05/05/2025 18:09

Who on earth cares what celebs look like in hospital?

The obsession amongst some people for celebrity gossip and the need to overshare every single private detail is bonkers.
