What do you think about Lorraine Kelly posting on Instagram from her hospital bed prior to surgery?

Interested to hear people's thoughts! I suspect opinions may vary and our ages could have something to do with it. But ... don't know.

What do you say?

I wouldn’t personally do it!

Agreed not everything in life has to be played out for likes.

Rockbird · 03/05/2025 21:07

I have lots of feelings about her, all negative. Another stupid woman who has decided on behalf of all womankind that men are welcome in whatever space they see fit. I don't give a crap what she does as long as she keeps her stupid opinions to herself.

TourangaLeila · 03/05/2025 21:13

She can post what she wants, same as everyone else. Of course it's for attention, that's why anyone posts anything.

billandtedsexcellentadventure · 03/05/2025 21:14

She’s done that because yet again she won’t be presenting her own tv show. Someone on twitter had account about how often she actually presents it. I’m sure she asked for it to be removed which it was. But I reckon it’s more to explain why she won’t be at work next week. I wish her well though. I like her.

TasWair · 03/05/2025 21:17

She's allowed to make her own decisions about what she shares. She's hurting no-one, and is raising awareness of a health issue.
I don't know how people can be arsed to get riled up by something like this.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/05/2025 21:19

I haven’t seen it but surely no diff from me posting on Facebook before an op ?

tho obv I’m not famous

what did she say

Why has it made the BBC News is what I want to know?

Nice, easy filler for them.

This.

I probably wouldn't - not nearly enough followers to make it worthwhile and I might like to lick my own wounds in private.

But statements like this do move some to have checkups, scans. It did me - Chris Boardman's prostate cancer diagnosis made me do something about a check. Something I'd been meaning to do for ages.

It must take a bit of bottle to go public.

Theunamedcat · 03/05/2025 22:01

Was she one of those "concerned" people encouraging the "where's kate" story a year ago?

BoredZelda · 03/05/2025 22:11

It’s no different to folk posting here right in the middle of hospital stays, and folks lap it up like it’s a soap opera.

HunnyPot · 03/05/2025 22:33

Laying in a hospital bed with surgeons, doctors, and nurses caring for you isn’t enough attention for some people.

minnienono · 03/05/2025 22:37

It’s on every news outlet it seems. Bizarre to me to share private medical information but apparently “she’s reassuring fans”. I’ve never watched her show so I guess I’m not the demographic.

As far as the bbc reporting, it’s down to what else is in the news and to balance the crazy crap from abroad, slow news day perhaps At least on the celeb front

GrandTheftWalrus · 03/05/2025 23:11

I shared a hospital selfie last year as I left work in an ambulance and wanted to let people know so there wouldn't be any rumours.

BBC journalism is dead

Isn't it just! In fact I'd say most journalism is dead.

With an explanation or just the selfie? Personally posting my actual face at a vulnerable moment seems crazy to me, and I can’t imagine it would be perceived as anything other than attention seeking, but I guess we’re all different.

Arlanymor · 04/05/2025 08:19

Everyone talks about their health these days - we know about cancer in the Royal family for example. I just see it as part of the workaday behaviour of people in the public eye - not something I care about all that much.

Boredlass · 04/05/2025 08:29

Who cares? This doesn’t bother me in the slightest. She can do what she wants

Pedallleur · 04/05/2025 09:04

Any publicity is good in this world. BBC always report one of their own from TV/journalism world.

GeorgianaM · 04/05/2025 09:05

She's desperate for attention 24 hours a day.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 04/05/2025 09:15

Purely dispassionately, it wouldn't surprise me if there were a Daily Mail vulture/journalist lurking around with a view to a 'TV host secret CANCER hell' story and this was done as a result.

I have no interest in ever seeing her on TV, but I can see why somebody who is on telly would make an announcement like that to both avoid misreporting (or truthful reporting when they don't want the details published) and because why the fuck should the dickhead doorstepping them or sniffing around get money for an exclusive?

pestowithwalnuts · 04/05/2025 11:44

Why on earth does she think that anyone would be the slightest interest in this.
Self centered trout

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/05/2025 15:12

I think it's interesting how quickly this has become "the norm" to some people, and to some it isn't seen as odd at all Confused.

Instagram has only been around for about 10 years? Before that it wouldn't be possible to know that a public figure was in hospital having an operation unless they gave a written statement to be read out on the show, or something like that.

To the pp who said "we know that the Royals have had treatment for cancer" - indeed, but they did not share it in a video from their hospital bed!

I think Davina and Eamon Holmes are just as weird in this regard too, fwiw.

If I needed to let anyone know about a hospital stay I could do it by WhatsApp and/or ask my husband to help me do it. No way would I put a picture up on the internet for the whole world to see. I think being famous has nothing to do with it. Famous people deserve health privacy, if they want it, although very very oddly it seems that some famous people don't want it!

An explanation as well. Infact it'll be a year tomorrow.

MrsCravensworth · 04/05/2025 15:21

Attention seeking. The woman has an ego the size of Jupiter (had the misfortune to meet her though work when I was younger).

And I sure there are many idiots who would “worry” about her and there would then be speculation and gossip.

Why not just text an explanation to your colleagues if you felt they needed to be informed? What did the selfie add?! That’s the bit I can’t understand…
