Anyone Up?

Been downstairs just under an hour - I have been fitted with a shoulder brace & the itching was nearly driving me demented! Ended up in tears plus was keeping DH awake. I’ve had painkillers & an anti histamine tablet. Why are you folks awake?

I’m up. I had vaccinations on Wednesday. I’ve been so ill since I could barely lift my head of the pillow. I still feel really lousy but now my back is killing me and I just had to move.

HallidayJones6779 · 03/05/2025 04:01

Ah sorry to hear about the shoulder brace OP! How long do you need it for?

I'm up breastfeeding my just turned 12 month old. She still doesn't sleep through... but we're slowly increasing the amount of hours she goes without a feed. I've also had covid this last 5 days and although I feel much better than I did, I'm still having wierd dreams so waking up every hour or so grinding my teeth and stressed (from cleaning chairs in my most recent dream)

hope you manage to get back to sleep soon!

Giggorata · 03/05/2025 04:01

Poor you, hope it dies down soon. Pain and discomfort is always worse at night, for some reason.

I'm awake because I tend to have two sleep periods nowadays. I'm retired, so it isn't a problem for getting up early. I used to lie there trying to get back to sleep, but it's better if I get up for a bit.
DH doesn't appreciate being woken either but I find I enjoy the peaceful house at night, and end up having a cup of tea on the sofa.

Hope the itching eases! I’m awake because I have terrible insomnia - sadly not retired and still trying to hold down a full time job on no sleep 😬

RobintheNun · 03/05/2025 04:04

I don’t actually know why I am. I wish I wasn’t but not going to bed has become a habit after the necessity of making myself be awake when I had babies to feed and the wet bed/scared in the night years and so on.
Hope the meds help OP. Itching is the worst. Could you get moisturiser or some sort of soothing type cream under there?

beachcitygirl · 03/05/2025 04:05

Me. Jet lag. You poor thing. I had a frozen shoulder a few years ago. Agony.

feelingbleh · 03/05/2025 04:05

I'm up iv got sinusitis and in so much pain iv had a cup of tea and watching gavin and stacy

Sesma · 03/05/2025 04:06

That sounds horrible OP, I'm up because I have a cold, feel OK but got up as felt a bit claggy so needed a good blow. DH is asleep and probably wouldn't appreciate it.

KissingOffTheMenu · 03/05/2025 04:12

Awww, sorry you’re feeling so frustrated.
I’ve never had a shoulder brace, so I can’t empathise as such.

im up coz I needed to visit Auntie Lulu, and now I can’t get back to sleep.

If you are finding sleep impossible, can you perhaps divert your mind by massaging some of your favourite body cream in?
I don’t know what your physically capable of, but even if you only do your hands, it might relax you, and the smell will be appealing to your senses.

I think when you’re trying too hard to sleep, it gets evermore difficult.

I think I’ll take my own advice, but I’ll do my feet.
They feel so hot, and a nice cream might be the answer.

Hope you get well soon.

I'm up feeding my newborn. Surviving on 6 weeks of 2.5 hours of sleep a night at the moment..

I feel for you with the itching. I had parathesia for years, it's horrendous being itchy!

Have you a banana in the kitchen?
it might just do the trick (if you like banana?)

sesquipedalian · 03/05/2025 04:15

Recently had knee replacement surgery - gritting my teeth for half an hour until I can have some more painkillers!

WoodlandLove · 03/05/2025 04:18

I'm up. Worrying about the rise of fascism in this country, and vaguely wondering about an exit strategy.
I hope you feel better soon OP Flowers

SingaporeWorkTrip · 03/05/2025 04:25

I'm up, I'm in Singapore for work. Home tonight, land Sunday 0630

sashh · 03/05/2025 04:30

This is normal for me, chronic insomnia.

Endofyear · 03/05/2025 04:32

I've got a horrible lurgy, can't stop coughing and so bunged up, can't sleep 😩 got up to get some water and ended up sitting in the kitchen with some cereal catching up on Coronation Street!

DappledThings · 03/05/2025 04:35

I'm too hot. Can't open the bedroom window at all because a pigeon keeps flying in and the heat woke me up. Now I feel queasy and DH is snoring so I'm just getting wider awake!

Blueuggboots · 03/05/2025 04:39

I’m at work…in a busy custody block. It’s like a zoo!

PlugUgly1980 · 03/05/2025 04:39

Up having breakfast before going for a long run. Love the peace and quiet of getting up early and having breakfast whilst the husband and kids are still a sleep, then getting outdoors whilst everything is still quiet too. My favourite time of the day.

MinnieMountain · 03/05/2025 04:40

Peri-menopause. I woke up for a wee then couldn’t sleep.

You'll be pleased to know it's cooling down considerably next week. I'm secretly pleased🤭 as I prefer cooler weather! I probably wouldn't say it out loud though, as most people seem to love the hot sun.
Just edited to say I relate re the pigeon - a colony of them round here (I can hear them cooing now!) and I've had them in the house more than once if a window's open! I found one happily sitting on a pile of tea towels once! 😂
I've weirdly developed a strange affection for them now though!

Agoddessonamountaintop · 03/05/2025 05:29

Been awake since about 3.30 - unusual for me these days to have a big wakeful session. I did have half a bottle of wine last night (and the night before 😬), which I don’t normally do so maybe that’s disturbed me. I’d love a cup of tea but DH is a light sleeper so don’t want to wake him up.
This all reads like a stream of consciousness, sorry! Hope everyone gets to catch up on shut-eye 😴.

This sounds heavenly! I was inspired by this thread to come downstairs early to enjoy a peaceful brew and perhaps do a little tidying up before the kids woke up... and as I got to the top of the stairs the baby woke again. It was an optimistic plan... one day!

RabbitsRock · 03/05/2025 08:35

Thank you for the well wishes & hope anyone poorly gets well soon. I went back to bed in the end & got a couple of hours before DH’s alarm went off.
