Looking for advice from someone who knows Edinburgh and London - where to move?

A little niche but I’m hoping I can find someone who knows both Edinburgh and London well and can recommend some places for us to consider moving!

We (couple, toddler, newborn to be) sadly need to leave Edinburgh, where we’ve made our life over the last 10 years, and move to London. This isn’t up for question sadly…

We currently have good experiences of living in Tollcross / Polwarth / Marchmont. We found these areas really friendly, welcoming and laid back. We also love the access to amenities and parks and the walkability. Are there similar places in London anyone can recommend?

Constraints are:

  • budget up to 1m
  • 3 beds - garden flat is fine, we are used to tenement living!
  • good state schools
  • connections to Waterloo or Victoria

I’ll obviously also happily take advice from any Londoners and beyond. I’m a SAHM and one of my biggest priorities is moving somewhere friendly where we’ll meet lots of people. I’m just very worried about getting this move wrong…

I live in Edinburgh and while I dont know London very well I have friends in Balham which always feels a bit similar when I visit. My friends DC are at the local state schools which have a good sense of community, there are cafes and restaurants, unless you’re commuting you can walk everywhere including the supermarket, and there’s lots of green space with the commons.

You can catch the Northern line to Waterloo although it’s not that close in Edinburgh terms. It’s close to Clapham Junction which is great for train services and access to Gatwick.

Central location in Wimbledon, so ideal for commuting into Waterloo.

£995,000

Well within your budget.

Parsons Green reminds me of Bruntsfield and the District line goes to both Victoria and Waterloo.

That’s not a great road. Far nicer in Wimbledon / Raynes Park for that budget.

It was just one example @Wimbledonmum1985!

Yes, there are plenty within the budget.

Here’s another one

I was just coming back to the thread to comment to @Scotlandtoengland that I don’t know Edinburgh to be able to make a comparison, but to point out that Wimbledon will meet all her criteria, including transport links to Waterloo and good schools.

I second Parsons Green, really lovely area. Also look at Chiswick, and Notting Hill (if you can comprise on the garden).
