What’s happened lately to make you think ‘the world has gone mad’?

So after seeing some threads on here today about men being allowed to a breastfeeding group, someone getting in trouble at work because they were a woman wanting to be addressed as a woman, and who knows what else… I’m curious what has happened lately that makes people think ‘WTF! The world has gone totally mad!’

OP posts:
BlueEyedBogWitch · 02/05/2025 05:10

A drag queen telling stories to confused-looking children and smug-looking parents in the foyer of The British Museum.

A billionaire throws a hen party in space while people are literally starving and going without healthcare.

Kids I work with having ‘please don’t remove his/her phone’ on their EHCP, because they are basically so addicted to dopamine that they get distressed and anxious if they can’t check their socials every five minutes. Young people’s brains have literally been hijacked by big tech, and we stand by and allow it.

I’d switch the goddamn internet off in a heartbeat. It’ll be the end of us. Misogyny, stifling of creativity, theft of our time, the acceleration of social contagion and the normalisation of what used to be fairly isolated human depravity, and the environmental impact of it completely outweigh any perceived gains. Look what it’s done to us in twenty odd years. I genuinely think that people believe The Cloud is an actual cloud, not giant aircraft hangers full of carbon-producing machines.

And then the gender bollocks. Give me strength.

Still the situation in Gaza while the rest of the world looks on.

arcticpandas · 02/05/2025 05:23

Trump, Putin, Musk and the other men ruining our world.

Not climate change per se but the world's lack of wanting to deal with it. Looking at my 11 year old practising eco friendly gestures while thinking to myself that it really doesn't matter because while you're recycling and saving water some people fly up in space for fun or take a jet to visit other rich people to ruin our planet.

Nuclear bombs. Trump and Putin having access to them.

That we have to define what a woman is in 2025.

Social media. Instagram posts and Tiktok is opium for the people.

That’s the best post I’ve seen for a while.

Not that there are really answers, but it’s all so true.

I work next to a migrant hotel so that’s one to test common sense. A 4 star hotel full of young men who entered the country illegally being kept at huge expense while half the country couldn’t afford one night in a hotel. It used to be £150 a night.

The surrounding area is now litter strewn and filthy and the hotel has hoarding around it and security guards.

Universities are another one. No longer places of elite education but visa mills, loan scamming centres and a tick box way to leave home for unacademic youngsters.

Glitchymn1 · 02/05/2025 05:43

Reminds me of the film, ‘don’t look up’.
Hottest few April days on record, I remember the days well as it’s a birthday. Years back it was freezing, cold, raining.
People enjoy the warmth, sun, it’s so wet in winter they embrace global warming (here). Places like Kuwait will be boiling- people will die.

AI is taking over, fake news. Real news isn’t reported anymore. Trans - that’s all I bloody hear.

Fixation with pads, games, virtual reality. We are making the world uninhabitable, can see us in high rises, filtered air, faces fixed to screens.
I don’t think having pets will be encouraged either, resources will be too tight.

People are starving, but you don’t see those reports anymore, you see Katy Perry flying to space.

Our treatment of both humans and animals is diabolical. We think we are the apex predator, but we make bad decisions based on greed that benefit the most wealthy. We’ve stopped evolving. We’ve lost our humanity.
There’s a lot of evil in this world. Our future has disaster written all over it.

Taking dogs to weddings.
Read a problem page about it on another reputable site.
The OP was having a small wedding in a country hotel, specified no children.
OP found out one couple was bringing their dog! Plan was to bring Fido to the service as he’s family and would like to be on the photos! Then they would lock him in their room for the rest of the day/evening.
I absolutely despair.

Cynicalaboutall · 02/05/2025 05:49

Well, that’s my day off to a great start.. Thanks!
Problem is that you are all right!

It feels like this all day every day. The biggest thing is probably the fact we are heading towards catastrophic irreversible climate disaster and yet govts/media organisations etc are seemingly carrying on as normal.

This in bucketfuls

Also the dozens of pointless anti trans threads in mumsnet 🙄 - yeah we get it

Wowzers!! You sound nice. But thanks for the update.

Better a dog than a bloody drag queen, though, eh?

tbf I'd like a dog with a drag queen best of all.

Reform just gained a fifth seat in parliament. That goes on the list.

1988abc · 02/05/2025 06:07

Disclaimer - haven't seen the news yet.

People thinking the reform party is actually a good idea.

Going on from what @Changeissmall is saying: a young man asked me how to get to a university in Central London (I work in public transport) and I said, where because I'd never heard if it before. After I googled it I gave him directions and looked at the reviews. Most of the students had said it was a place that took your money and didn't provide any lectures. This young man, obviously full of expectations of studying in London, who told me he genuinely thought this was a kosher centre of education, was going to get a shock.

Another thing is 2 boys at my station during the day of about 15, one did a wheelie through the station risking injury to others, and when I told him to stop, his friend gave me attitude and tried to wind me up whilst recording me on his mobile phone. As I am a transport worker and part of a group regularly denigrated in local press, I had to walk away and hide in the office whilst trying to stay calm or I'd be viral on TilTok in minutes. Mobile phones have given antisocial behaviour a whole other aspect, turning the narrative around to make essential workers look bad.

Oh, and Brexit. I spent the day in Brussels recently (which you can do from London) and I had to fill out paperwork before I went. And the change in immigration at the border. I had a nice day, I just think it would have gone a lot smoother when we were part of the EU.

No, we are not.

The hysteria is just a control measure used by governments to generate revenue through environmental taxes.

Don't believe me?

Ever wondered why the solution to all serious "environmental issues" is a tax?

Petrol cars are bad! Unless you pay a tax.

Flying is bad! Unless you pay a tax.

Pollution is bad! Unless you pay a tax.

They don't ban anything they say is "bad for the environment" they just tax it.

The balaclava’d young kids committing arson, attacking kids younger than themselves in parks (a 7 year old was recently dragged by the hair off a swing and had her head stamped on with her grandma there) or attacking fully grown adults. Stabbings. Intimidation because they’re carrying knives. The police can’t do anything. These are kids in big groups aged 7-16 or older. Reporting gets you nowhere. They parade about in balaclavas or with their hoods pulled tight around their faces. And I’m only on the edge of this estate that they’re spilling down from. The nearest town centre isn’t worth going to for fear of a huge gang of these kids on bikes ready to assault anyone they feel like. It’s a known issue but nothing being done about it. They’re not scared because they know they’re untouchable. One of their own died via e-scooter recently after a collision, his mates left him dying in the road while they hid the scooter because it was stolen. It became this big thing of a memorial for him with his mates firing firework rockets at police and passing cars. Seems to have died down now but the rest of the balaclava gang are back on form.
A couple of weeks ago I had to call 999 because from my front room I could hear a little boy screaming for help. The balaclavas had him. He couldn’t have been older than 7. The teenage lads picked him up and ran with him with two teenage girls running along behind. They took him onto the roundabout and this poor little boy kept screaming “Stop!” “Help me”. I gave all details and two police cars did actually turn up within 7 minutes. But by that time the kids had taken the little boy into a house (which I gave full details of) and they all ran back and forth away from the police cars. The police didn’t even stop outside the house and knock. Just drove around for a bit and then left.

Oh my goodness where do you live?

Most feminist convictions, such as it's in women's best interest to get into 50/50 relationships. Until men are the ones to get pregnant, give birth, take care of children, do most or all housework, do most or all family admin - AND work on top of it all...women should not contribute a penny to bills.

Allowing 14 year olds to have "boyfriends", and treating them like they are the husband of their said 14 year old.

Normalising leaving shit stains in the toilet. And normalising poor toilet habits and hygiene in general.

Blended families. Most ridiculous thing that doesn't work. And it's unfair to the children that their space, parent's time and money get wasted on other people's children.

Letting children rule the household, being scared of your own children, being scared of "pushing children away" so you accept nonsense, age-inappropriate behaviour from them and generally taking on a super 'lax and undisciplined approach to child rearing. Parents aren't supposed to be their children's best friend, they're supposed to be their PARENTS.

Excusing bad behaviour, lack of social awareness, lack of manners and selfish, grabby behaviour with "autism".

Tolerating horrible men that are alcoholics, gamblers, porn-addicted, cheaters, liars, drug users, have no job, expect women to spend their money on them...the list goes on.

Moving men into your home after a few months of dating. Plus points if you have children and doing this shit. Shame on you.

Denying that biology dictates how men and women behave, and what things they gravitate towards.

Veganism.

Getting pets when you are already overwhelmed emotionally and financially.

Tolerating being taken advantage of, and allowing people to use you and take, take, take from you without ever getting anything back.

FatLarrysBanned · 02/05/2025 07:11

Most of the above and another small one for me.

DM currently in hospital after a seizure. Took all her meds in with us, she has dementia so everything is in prefilled blister packs. They wouldn't let her take them. Had to wait for a doctor to prescribe all the same meds, which took over 6 hours, so she missed 2 doses.

They didn't have one of her anti-psychotics and asked if they could have the packet we brought in. Yes, you can. You could have also had the rest of them! Absolute madness.

Yep another one for biological sex and science having to be clarified to define what a woman is. Why doesn’t this happen with trans men and make the news though, genuinely interested as to why we don’t have trans men protesting about not being welcome in mens toilets, or men complaining about trans men using their male spaces? Why does it only seem to be trans women in female spaces making the news?

And Trump, Ukraine, Gaza, most things have already been mentioned by pp

Because men have been used to getting their own way, dominant in society, and when they transition to being ‘women’ they find it difficult to cope with restrictions women have put up with.

Perzival · 02/05/2025 07:24

Having a one diagnosis to catch all in autism. Ds has severe autism so when I see the videos or hear people they have self diagnosed autism but have a job, family, friends etc it just seems crazy that my son has that as severe disability. Likewise when people refer to it as a superpower.

Yes, the gender bollocks as referred to up thread.

People needing to be special all the time.

Normal emotions being labelled and diagnosed as anxiety, depression etc

Sandylittleknees · 02/05/2025 07:28

Someone brought a dog to our remembrance service. Another family came in with n their walking clothes, allowed their children to talk all the way through and put them on their shoulders so that they could see.
Huge numbers of children needing extra time / laptops in exams. Needing to find medical diagnoses for all the natural range of human personalities, likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses.
Vast numbers of people with ‘main character energy’ and the complete disappearance of any sense of duty to society.
me playing on here when I could be reading a book 😞.
