I really want to get a tiny tattoo. But I'm a wimp and I want to know exactly what it will be like.

It'll be a bit like the one pictured. In the same sort of place. It'll be very fine line work, no filling or anything.

How much will it hurt and how long will it take?

I've given birth naturally (horrific, had epidural) but never broken a bone or anything. I'm fine with injections normally, they don't bother me.

Won't take long as its tiny. Pain is very individual. I dont find it painful as such. Just like the vibration of a shaver on your skin.

I've just had one in that spot, it will take 20 mins. Mine felt like a slight burning sensation, I wouldn't say it was painful.

This is good news so far! I really want one but I don't want getting it to be absolutely horrifically painful!

How long do they take to heal?

What should I look for when picking a place to get it done?

You can buy numbing cream (Emla) but as said above, pain is different from person to person. The tattoo pictured above shouldn't feel like more than a bit of mild scratching/stinging and should be easily tolerable.

If you ask the tattooist, they can use the needle without ink for a few seconds so you can feel what its like before you commit. Expect to still pay the minimum charge if they do tho.

That will be just a scratch/sting and less than 10 mins for the actual tattoo I would say

That should heal within a week or so.

As for picking somewhere, personal recommendations from people you know is the best way. Make sure they are licensed by the local authority (the licence should be on display) and see if they have examples of previous work they can show you.

To be fair, an apprentice with some experience should be able to do that for you.

I’m heavily tattooed and the inner wrist for me was like scratching an itch on an area that had mild sunburn if that makes sense?
Definitely not painful, more irritating discomfort.
And something that size, which is only line work should take 10 mins tops!
