I'm sure there are people 66+ on here that are still working in their various professions /fields...however I'm wondering about the chances of me getting a little part time job not having worked for a very long time!🤔 due to health and other stuff... used to do IT long ago but for various reasons can't do that now.. should I have any hope or not? would be v grateful for any opinions...thank you😊

In your shoes, I would volunteer.

bigknitblanket · 30/04/2025 21:51

There’s a website for over 50’s jobs
https://restless.co.uk/jobs/

madaboutpurple · 30/04/2025 21:56

Tesco and Asda seem to recruit older people.

naemates · 30/04/2025 22:00

It’s a bit of a cliche and not everywhere has them now but I employ lollipop men and ladies for a living. I’ve hired a 79 yr old and an 80 yr old in the past few weeks!

Don't volunteer if you want paid work and need the money.

My sil (60)started a new full time job yesterday after a 2 year break from working.
She is a bit miffed about missing out on the good weather this week!

MidnightPatrol · 30/04/2025 22:08

I’ve noticed both Marks and Spencer and Waitrose seem to have a lot of older workers.

IReallyLoveItHere · 30/04/2025 22:13

I think you'd be valued in a lot of roles. I'm sure by 60 you've developed common sense and an ability to follow instructions which is all you need for casual jobs.

Mature women seem to make up a lot of the workforce in independent cafes and bakeries round here. They're not open long hours do might be a good fit.

almostbloody50 · 30/04/2025 22:22

The care companies are crying out for care workers, flexible hours and looking after people not always elderly in their own homes. It’s a valuable role.

teddybearsbear · 30/04/2025 22:24

I'm an exam invigilator and every school I know is desperately looking for people so might be worth looking at that. It's not the most exciting job but it's flexible and it's easy to get into

Interesting thanks, how did you get into that?

My friend’s husband is an Ocado delivery driver
someone else I know joined the highways agency
exam invigilators
tutoring
Waitrose staff
M&S Christmas shifts
private school bursar, admin or IT team
student counsellor
taxi driver
landscaping
rugby club bar staff
groundsman

teddybearsbear · 30/04/2025 22:53

My local high school posted on indeed but it's usually on most schools websites

It's brilliant I love it. They send the exam calendar out and I tell them when I'm available. It's very flexible and a great team mostly retired people

There are the main gcse exams coming up next month and then a few sets of mocks throughout the year.
