Very much lighthearted! Incidental costs of breaking up with your partner!

As stated - this is LIGHTHEARTED!!!
DP and I broke up at the weekend. So far, in wine, chocolate, a takeaway because I was too miserable to cook for DC, a new top to make myself feel better and 3 hanging baskets (which I would never have bought), I’m £200 and 13 stone lighter.
Any more?

In the 2 months since separating I've been been going through a kind of manic productive stage. So far I've decorated the kitchen, brought/grown 200 new garden plant, installed 3 new beds to house them, and ordered the stuff I'll need to replace a section of fence.

Probably getting on for £1000 in decorating and gardening stuff

YYYDlilah · 29/04/2025 22:12

I went on the heartache diet and saved money because I barely ate.
Also lost more than twice my bodyweight of ugly lard.

Barabajagal · 29/04/2025 22:12

Don’t forget the cost of the new haircut. Ex dp always said he liked me with long hair ….

Icantremembermyusername · 29/04/2025 22:17

@Barabajagal did you have a revenge cut?! And have it all off?? Well done! Hope you love it!
@Sprogonthetyne I didn’t include my Amazon order to make a patio where he didn’t one!
@YYYDlilah Do you feel better? I bought a whole load of salad but have been heavily leaning on wine, chocolate and blueberries.

I managed to shift 3 stone in 6 months because I hate cooking for one so lived on scrambled eggs, toast and apples at home with a pensioners special pub lunch a couple of times a week with a friend, no I’m not old but the pub didn’t care.

I met Dp started cooking again and I’m now 1 stone heavier than my starting weight Blush

Bunch of plane tickets to go visit friends and family. I racked up the frequent flyer miles.

BeNiceWhenItsFinished · 29/04/2025 22:21

I went out and bought a whole load of replacement CDs because exH had bought most of them and they left when he did.

Daisyvodka · 29/04/2025 22:22

Gym membership £25
Good sushi takeout I walked an hours round trip for: £38
Paint to repaint our bedroom: £22
New bedding in bright colours: 2 x £25ish
Fake tan bottle £25
New washing machine because he had ruined the old one by overloading it constantly: £340 (would have had to do this anyway in fairness)
Buying him out of the house: £40k family loan.

Walker1178 · 29/04/2025 22:27

I replaced exDP with a cat. She’s a little princess and deserves all the toys/treats that I routinely waste my money on. The cost of moving a paying partner out and a furry freeloader in seriously affected my budget though

YYYDlilah · 29/04/2025 22:29

It took me quite a long time to feel better, and wine helped.
Probably spent loads on that but it was medicinal so it doesn't count.Smile

Icantremembermyusername · 29/04/2025 22:40

Thanks for sharing! I’m feeling slightly less unhinged :-)

When I split up with DP briefly years ago, was a 3 month break, I rage shopped and spent £400 in one day, bought almost all of woolies pick and mix (thank god I worked there and had discount)went on a spontaneous holiday by myself, had takeaway for 5 days in a row. Back then I was working around 50 hours a week with no kids and paying limited rent, but it made me feel better so money well spent 🤣 he’s long since repaid

Pixiedust1234 · 29/04/2025 22:57

I can't cost it yet but once I'm in my new house I'll be buying

A dishwasher because he said I didn't need one.
A decent washer that spins more than 1200 because he said I didn't need higher.
A decent tumbledryer that doesn't leave washing damp because he said it was better.
A greenhouse because I wasn't allowed one.
A carport (mainly for wet washing) because I wasn't allowed one.
And new pretty pale bedding. I always had to have dark because of his job/cleanliness (a mechanic).
Furniture that isn't broken (by him).
Crockery that isn't chipped (by him).

I think I need to win the lottery 😂

Last minute 5* adult only, all inclusive spa hotel in the Canaries to forget about the bastard.

Yes, it was expensive. But I felt a lot less sad in 26 degree heat, sat on a sun-bed with a cocktail in my hand 😁

CholesterolTowers · 29/04/2025 23:08

Vet’s bills mainly, because when I left I took a detour via the dog’s home to adopt all the pets I’d never been “allowed” to have. Best decision ever.

S0j0urn4r · 29/04/2025 23:15

Holiday to Africa - £1500
House move - £10,000
Getting rid of a 14 stone Fuckwit - PRICELESS!
😂😂😂

BottleBlondeMachiavelli · 29/04/2025 23:18

In my first marriage, I double barrelled. I remember being especially pisses off that I had to pay to change my passport. Quite a new passport too. I didn’t change my name this time.

Neck back & shoulder massage? Spa groupon!!

Crushed23 · 30/04/2025 01:23

Took myself on a solo trip to Bali for 2 weeks shortly after my last break-up. Worth every penny 💜

JurgenKloppsTeeth · 30/04/2025 07:25

Solo trip to Andalucia. Loved it. I did it on the cheap because I was skint but it was marvellous to only have to please myself. I felt so free.
