Help me solve this mystery.
My house is split between two buildings - the main house and an outbuilding. In the outbuilding is the guest bedroom/kids' games room, a small shower room, which is off the laundry (where there is also a "spare" freezer), hobby room and home office.
A couple of weeks ago I was planning the week's meals and had a look in the spare freezer. There was a whole chicken, which had been there a while so I decided we'd have it on the Friday.
Next day, my DH helps me to unload the shopping and he puts frozen pizzas in the spare freezer, noticing the whole chicken and thinking we should eat it soon (same thought process as me - we've been married a long time).
That afternoon guests come to stay for a few days - people we know fairly well, who are a nice, Christian family with 2 children age 6-9.
Friday comes around and I go to fetch the chicken to defrost it. It's not there. DH looks and he can't see it. We empty the spare freezer and the main freezer but it's nowhere.
The only explanation I can think of is that the friends took it, but it's such a weird thought. Maybe DH left it out after putting the pizzas away and the guests found it (now out of date, defrosted and smelly) so they removed it to a bin, but didn't tell us in case we were embarrassed? That's all I've got. It plays on my mind far too often and I need closure.
So mumsnet please tell me:
- Is there any other explanation for the disappearance of the frozen chicken?
- How do I raise this with the guests, who are coming back this weekend, to find out if they had a good reason for removing it?
