Being proposed as a fundraiser. Lots of people, lots of village halls etc as possible places.

Has anyone done this, was it worth the effort? What worked well (buying "tokens" with a card machine has worked well at other places I have been at.....

I have a horrible feeling that asking people to donate £10 would raise more money for a whole lot less effort.....

I've helped at loads of jumble sales over the decades, but they don't get the same numbers now there are charity shops on every High Street, and I suspect even fewer people now you can pick up everything on Vinted type sites.

Back in the day they were a lot of work, but also a good fundraiser.

From an organisers pov, a car boot or table top sale is a lot less work (before, during and after) and people sell their own stuff. The organisation takes money per car / table, and takes money for refreshments.
