Renewing DD's passport

DD is now 16, her last passport ran out at age 11 in 2020. She hasn't needed one as we haven't been abroad.

I know that she can now apply for a 10 year adult passport, but from looking on the gov.uk site I'm struggling to see whether this needs to be treated as a brand new application or a renewal. Obviously there are more steps to prove eligibility if it is a new application (birth cert etc).

Has anyone been in similar position and can shed light on this please? Thanks

It will be a renewal as it's not her first passport. If you apply online the questions will guide you through what information you need to supply.

Thanks, that's good to know. I will need to support her through the process (she has some additional needs), so I'm doing some research before I sit down with her and the laptop

It's a renewal. She may or may not need a countersignature depending on whether she can be recognised from the old photo. I think the system will default to not asking for a countersignature due to her age.

Definitely a renewal.
