Which streaming service should I get?

I currently only have Freeview but am running out of things to watch that I enjoy, so think I need to sign up to a streaming service for the first time ever Grin. I’d like them all but can only afford one, so which do I choose? The programmes I like are thrillers (especially American FBI type but also loved Happy Valley etc) and reality TV.

Advice please!

I alternate. Never have more than 1 at a time. Currently have Prime as I wanted to catch up on the new Bosch Legacy series. Before that I had Disney+ etc. Just wait for my favourite series to drop (in full - sometimes they drop it over a couple of months so you would pay for more than 1 month if you watch it as it's released). Then binge what I want, and move on.

Sometimes I will keep one for more than a month at a time. Usually Netflix. Or prime / amazon before Christmas as its useful for the free /quick delivery of Christmas gifts too.

Like a PP I alternate - I use Amazon prime & then swop to Netflix

Yes I alternate too. Although I always keep prime as I use it a lot for the delivery. Atm I've got Disney, cancelled netflix a couple months ago. Have actually got Paramount plus as well as I love all the yellowstone series and once those finished we got into Mobland and the episodes are being released weekly. Will probably cancel once that's finished and just keep disney but paramount has got some good dramas.

I never thought of alternating, that’s a really good idea!

Is it difficult to get out of the contracts? Is there a long notice period?

It’s worth checking with your friends which ones they have and seeing if they can add you.

We share Disney plus and Amazon prime with friends. I pay for Netflix but there’s not much on atm, currently quite a few good things on Apple TV so watching all those before I cancel

Another one saying alternate. We always have prime as we have it for parcels. But we alternate between Netflix, Disney, and a couple of channels on prime every month or so.

No...there's no fee to cancel if you pay monthly and your subscription generally ends when your full month is up.

Apple TVPlus makes all their own shows, so they are unique to them. They don't have an enormous selection, but some like Ted Lasso and Slow Horses are fabulous. So subscribe for a couple of months and watch like mad. I live in Australia, so it may be different, but every time I buy a product from the Apple Store I get a free subscription for varying amounts of time, and also get random offers infrequently emailed to me.

Plus most services offer you a free trial of varying lengths of time.

I don't know its price in the UK, but Prime is surprising cheap, I think au$7 per month. That includes Prime Music, some free books and free delivery for most Amazon purchases. They also have quite a few surprisingly good things unique to Amazon. Someone mentioned Bosch. It's actually one of the few TV show based on books I like that I actually can watch and enjoy (although I did avoid it for years), but I must admit I have liked Titus Welliver ever since Deadwood.

I probably should alternate but I have prime due to faster deliveries, Netflix, Disney + and Apple TV which is free for a month then I’ll cancel

PeonyBulb · 09/11/2025 22:20

Choose Netflix or Disney +
