Public Holiday entitlement?

Hi,

I'd like some opinions/advice please? I've started a new job where the leave year runs from Feb to Jan. I'm entitled to 11.5 public holidays plus my annual leave entitlement.

I questioned my public holiday entitlement as it looked wasn't enough for the public holidays in the leave year. They've advised because I started on the 1 April the entitlement is pro rata'd. I understand this for annual leave but this now means that I'll not have enough leave/be able to take off all the bank holidays.

I'm going to double check the details on my contract as apart from the entitlement, I can't remember it detailing anything else. Is this normal?

I think it’s normal to do it that way

Normal at my work. And really annoying as if you don’t have enough hours to cover the bank holidays, you either have to work to make up the hours or use your annual leave allowance to cover it.

Same. Where I work they pro-rata the bank holidays too. Same if you’re part time, you get proportionately less and have to make it work.

Urgh. I think that's rubbish. It's different to annual leave in that it's specific days so should be treated differently, I think.

Thanks all.
