Flying in 25 days and one of the kid's passports has expired, what should I do?

Do I just do a normal renewal tomorrow? Or is this urgent enough to take a day off work and drive to a passport office for a 7 day fast track?

Has anyone renewed a child's passport recently who could give me an idea of timescales? Last time we did a normal renewal I think it only took about 7 days anyway...

I renewed my dds passport just before Easter. It took 10 days all in all.

rubyslippers · 27/04/2025 15:09

Generally children’s passports take longer
i just renewed my passport online and if took a week so was fine
id not chance it and get an emergency appt to sort it

FeyreandRhysand · 27/04/2025 15:11

According to their website it’s a 3 week turn around currently. Remember a slight backlog recently too due to the bank hols.
Ive sent mine off for renewal and applied for my daughters first about 10 days ago and have had notification that they’ve received the docs but nothing further yet. I’d go for an emergency one rather than risk it!

homeedmam · 27/04/2025 15:13

Does anyone know if we do a normal renewal and it starts to get closer to the deadline, can we then switch to fast track?

I’ve just checked the website and you can do a one week fast track via post. I don’t think you can do same child passport for children but I didn’t check.

You can’t. I would do an in person for this to take no chances!

Ohthatsabitshit · 27/04/2025 15:18

I’d fast track and take the day off. The stress of waiting would kill me

This isn't possible.

I would do the in person fast track appointment.

Do you really want to risk the entire holiday, on the slim chance that the passport will be processed and returned in time?

TheNightingalesStarling · 27/04/2025 15:21

Not worth the risk. Do fast track.

homeedmam · 27/04/2025 15:22

Think we will have to do the fast track though I know DH will want to risk it as it will be him that has to take the day off to go!

Im sure you can do a one week fast track (for double the price)
We renewed a childs passport about 6 weeks ago, application to arriving was 11 days but i wouldnt have risked it with a holiday booked.

mycatisawesome · 27/04/2025 16:27

Renewed a couple of weeks ago took about a week for adults and children from putting in post to receiving back

abricotine · 28/04/2025 11:38

I did my child’s a week ago, documents acknowledged on Friday but nothing else so far

Damnthat1sTaken · 28/04/2025 12:45

Got both of my children’s back this month in 7-10 days

homeedmam · 28/04/2025 12:48

We've booked an appointment to go there tomorrow. Although I think it would probably come back in time it's not worth risking the holiday!

abricotine · 29/04/2025 22:53

I think it’s the safest option OP
enjoy your trip.

Toomanydogwalks · 29/04/2025 23:07

I did DDs last year. Once it was received it sat in their pending for a week and was then processed and dispatched.
I'd not risk the standard service if you’ve only got 25 days.

LongLiveTheLego · 30/04/2025 01:30

I did my daughters a couple of week ago took 9 days.

LongLiveTheLego · 30/04/2025 01:30

That was a first passport not a renewal and was Colby.
